2. Nghiêu Sơn Lĩnh and the Majestic Historical Events
Not only possessing majestic beauty, but the Nghiêu Sơn Lĩnh mountain range also bears witness to numerous majestic historical events of the nation, particularly the resistance against Northern invaders.
During the downfall of the Trần dynasty, Hồ Quý Ly seized power to establish the Hồ dynasty. However, his unpopular policies led to dissatisfaction among the people. Taking advantage of the chaos, the Ming dynasty from the North launched an invasion of Cao Bằng.
At that time, in Cao Bằng, there was a wealthy and virtuous leader named Bế Khắc Thiệu. He was highly regarded by the people for his benevolent deeds. Skilled in diplomacy, he befriended Nông Đắc Thái, a martial arts expert known for his remarkable archery skills. Sharing similar ideals and aspirations, they swore brotherhood and aimed to repel the Ming invaders.
Combining their strengths, Bế Khắc Thiệu and Nông Đắc Thái rallied the people to rebellion. Bế Khắc Thiệu, adept in military tactics, was appointed as the commander-in-chief, with Nông Đắc Thái as his trusted deputy. They constructed fortifications at Khâu Thước mountain, a strategically advantageous location for defensive purposes.
To symbolize their cause, they raised a banner inscribed with the word 'Bế' (Bế Khắc Thiệu's surname), accompanied by the slogan 'Khắc Thiệu for King' and 'Đắc Thái as deity'. This banner served to rally the villagers and signify the nation's resolve to resist foreign aggression. Through numerous battles, culminating in the decisive victory at Nà Khuổi in September 1426, the enemy was defeated, and peace was restored to Cao Bằng. Though few, these historical landmarks are enough to commemorate the heroic struggles of our ancestors.

Despite significant damage over time, this fortress remains a valuable cultural and historical relic, reflecting the grand history of Cao Bằng.

The shrine is built on a high mound called Dragon's Child Hill, within the fortress, there are four other mounds named: Dragon, Unicorn, Turtle, and Phoenix. Constructed in traditional architectural style, the shrine features a three-part structure with seven rooms, brick walls, tiled roofs, wooden columns, and horizontal wooden beams intricately adorned with dragon and phoenix motifs, symbolizing the regal power of the monarch.
