This mountain range not only captivates tourists with its majestic beauty but also intertwines with the legend from the time of the creation of the world by the people of Tả Giàng Phình. The legend recounts that when the world was still dark and the land was flat, a god with a massive and extraordinary body suddenly appeared.
He worked tirelessly alone to create rivers, mountains, and landscapes for the mortal realm. He dug the earth to form hills and mountains. The places where he took soil to build mountains became seas and lakes. Then, he skillfully used his hands to create streams connecting to rivers, leading water into lakes and flowing into the sea.
After completing his creation work, he exerted all his strength to build a very tall mountain range.
He was so engrossed in building until the mountain range surpassed the clouds and reached the sky. The Heavenly Palace saw this and became extremely angry, so they sent the Thunder God to strike for several days and nights. Thus, the entire mountain range was cracked, leaving only 5 tall peaks like 5 fingers pointing straight to the challenging sky.
Nowadays, every morning with clear skies or beautiful sunny days, when looking from Lào Cai city towards the West, tourists will witness the mystical Ngũ Chỉ Sơn mountain range appearing amidst the green clouds. The undulating peaks seem to form a backdrop for the five mountains behind.
In the evening, under the reddish glow of the setting sun spreading across the enchanting twilight sky, Ngũ Chỉ Sơn gradually shifts from blurry green to deep blue and then dark purple, evoking many legends.

While the ascent from Provincial Road 155 is relatively smooth, on the side of Ô Quý Hồ Pass, it can be considered the backside of the mountain, characterized by sheer cliffs and deep ravines.
