What's Interesting about Ben Ngoc Rong? Explore Saigon River Port

Ben Ngoc Rong port attracts tourists with its unique architecture and impressive historical stories. Follow Klook to discover interesting information about this destination before traveling here!
History of Ben Ngoc Rong
Nha Rong port on the Saigon River, built in 1862, was a trading port and headquarters of the Messageries Maritimes company. In 1945, after the French colonialists withdrew from Indochina, the Vietnamese government took over and used it as a river port. And by 1965, the US military built this place as a reception center for the military. It was not until 1975, when the country was restored to peace, that Nha Rong port came under the management of the Vietnam Maritime Bureau.
In the future, to commemorate the historical event of Uncle Ho's journey to seek salvation for the country on June 5, 1911, the port was preserved and transformed into the Ho Chi Minh Memorial Area. On the 10th anniversary of Uncle Ho's death, September 2, 1979, Nha Rong port officially opened its doors to visitors to explore the section 'President Ho Chi Minh's Path to Salvation (1911-1945)'. Subsequently, this place was converted into the Ho Chi Minh Museum.
Architecture of Ben Ngoc Rong
One of the attractions for tourists here is the unique architecture, harmoniously combining Eastern and Western styles. The architecture of Ben Ngoc Rong bears Western style, but the roof is adorned with 'Double Dragon Admiring the Moon' - a familiar symbol in Vietnamese temple architecture. The image of two dragons on the roof gave rise to the name 'Nha Rong', and is still used today. Some typical features of French architecture that you can easily recognize here include large square pillars, wide facades, and meticulous, delicate decorative details.
In 1955, the construction of Nha Rong port was renovated, replacing the two old facing dragons with two new dragons facing outward. Since then, there have been no further changes to the structure, and it has been preserved intact. This will certainly help architecture and culture enthusiasts discover many interesting things.
