These two companies had previously signed a similar agreement, which expired at the end of 2022.

Jenni Lukader, President of Nokia Technologies, stated:
Samsung is a leading company in the smartphone industry, and we are pleased to have reached a friendly agreement with them. The agreement provides both companies with the freedom to innovate and reflects the strength of Nokia's patent portfolio, decades-long investment in R&D, and contributions to mobile standards as well as other technologies.
Under the new agreement, Samsung will pay royalties to Nokia over several years, starting from January 1, 2023. The actual terms of the agreement remain confidential.
Nokia currently holds over 20,000 patents, with 4,500 of them deemed essential for 5G technology. The company has invested more than €130 billion in R&D since 2000.
