Layers of white clouds stacked like a giant waterfall, a scene that everyone desires to witness at least once. For those who have seen it, the desire to witness it again persists. So, where can one witness this majestic mountainous cloud scene? FanFan suggests a few locations, hoping you will have extraordinary experiences with it.
1. Fansipan
As a Vietnamese, one cannot be unaware of Fansipan. Perhaps you have already visited, perhaps not; maybe you have conquered the summit with your own two feet, or perhaps you opted for the cable car. Regardless of the means, it remains a source of pride as you stand atop the roof of Indochina.
With its height of 3,143m, Fansipan is a magnificent place for cloud enthusiasts. It's not just about standing at the summit of Indochina's highest mountain, but also about the overwhelming sensation of being surrounded by endless, billowing white clouds. There are days when the clouds drift gently beneath your feet, and the feeling of touching the clouds is truly remarkable.
When it comes to conquering Fansipan, you have two options: Firstly, take the cable car for a quick journey and admire the breathtaking scenery from above, passing through layers of clouds before reaching the top. It's definitely an amazing experience. Secondly, the more challenging option is to trek up with your own two feet. However, to participate in a Fansipan trekking expedition, you must meet certain health standards, undergo special training, and the journey itself is undoubtedly not easy.
When is the best time to climb Fansipan? It's when there's no rain! You can climb during September to October, just after the rainy season but before the real winter sets in, so it's not too cold. Alternatively, you can climb during February to March, during the cool spring weather and especially before the rainy season starts.

2. Ta Xua
When it comes to cloud hunting, Fansipan might not be the first place that comes to mind, but that title belongs to the cloud paradise of Ta Xua. The Ta Xua range marks the natural border between Yen Bai and Son La provinces, starting from Ta Xua village, consisting of three main peaks, among which the third peak is famously known as the 'Dinosaur Backbone'.
At an altitude of 2850m, the Ta Xua cloud sea certainly doesn't disappoint, with its majestic scenery and a view that touches the horizon, living up to its reputation.

Not only is Ta Xua a cloud paradise as rumored, but it's also a fantastic spot to enjoy the night sky, sunrise, and sunset, which are all nature's blessings bestowed upon this place. Particularly suitable for photography enthusiasts, make sure to bring a sturdy tripod.
For Ta Xua, it can be said that every time of the year is beautiful. If you visit from December to March, you might encounter the season of Moc Chau mustard flowers, cherry blossoms, wild sunflowers, and plum blossoms showing off their colors. Or in May-June (flooding season), the golden sky, the lush greenery of terraced fields, the fragrant scent of young rice, and the aroma of non-rice are unforgettable experiences, like a specialty of the Northwest region.
You can conquer Ta Xua by motorbike, stay at a nearby homestay and wake up early to hunt for clouds and watch the sunrise, or camp on the summit of Ta Xua for an adventurous experience. What's more rewarding is to enjoy a cup of coffee or hot tea, sitting quietly watching the sun gradually rise from a sea of clouds.
3. Salt Mountain (Bach Moc Luong Tu)

Bach Moc Luong Tu – What an enchanting name. But the journey to conquer it is not so! It's for this reason that the beauty of the clouds on Salt Mountain is not something anyone can easily witness.
With a height of 3046m, Bach Moc Luong Tu is the highest peak in the Northwest cloud region. Conquering Bach Moc is a challenging and rugged journey. The sweet reward of this journey is the pride of setting foot on the mountain peak, with the vast ocean of clouds atop Salt Mountain – the most beautiful stop when conquering the Bach Moc route.
Salt Mountain, standing at 2840m, will surely not disappoint you. After a long day of travel, imagine resting your feet at a small campsite on the summit, having dinner, chatting, then sleeping, partly because of exhaustion, partly to wake up early the next morning to enjoy the sea of clouds, to enjoy the sunrise – the specialties of this place.
The best time to conquer Bach Moc Luong Tu is during the transitional period between spring and summer because the weather is not too cold yet not too hot. Climbing during summer, under the scorching sun with such a long distance to cover, often leads to dehydration and fatigue. If you like snow, you can consider traveling during winter (although it's not guaranteed), but be aware that it can be quite cold, so plan accordingly.

4. Lao Than
Mount Lao Than, located in Lao Cai province, with a height of 2862m, is truly an enchanting destination filled with clouds, breathtakingly beautiful, to the point of forgetting the way back. Just like Bach Moc, to witness that sea of clouds, you have to overcome a challenging yet not too difficult journey, unlike Bach Moc.
Surely this is a destination not to be missed for avid travelers, those who love stories of the cloud season.
So what's fun about going to Lao Than? What's memorable? – It's the magnificent and peculiar nature, where there are dry fields, burning trees, dense bushes, meandering streams, lush green grasslands, hills, mountains, the atmosphere when the sun slowly hides behind the rocks, or the sky turns red at dawn... truly peculiar, but you have to set foot here to see the beauty of this peculiarity.

5. Ta Chi Nhu
Ta Chi Nhu ranks 7th in the top 10 highest mountains in Vietnam, with a height of 2,979m. Its characteristic features include steep slopes, sparse vegetation, rocky terrain, and harsh conditions. Although not the highest peak, it is one of the most challenging mountains to conquer in the Northwest cloud region.
According to the experience of predecessors who climbed Ta Chi Nhu, the best time to climb the mountain is from October to the end of March the following year. During this time, the weather is cool, with little rain, making mountain climbing less sweaty. The afternoon weather is delightful, and the chance of cloud hunting is extremely high.
