Numbering pages in Word is a common task. You simply need to go to Insert -> Page Number to add page numbers to your Word document. However, by default, page numbers start from the first page to the last page. If a document includes sections like a table of contents or a preface, it will number all pages accordingly. If you want to number pages from any specific page, you need to follow some additional steps. Below is a detailed guide on how to number pages from any page in Word.

Step 1: Break the Next Page
This action helps you break the page into a new section, where each section can have different page numbering, independent of others. Place the cursor at the beginning of the page where you want to start numbering the pages as shown in the image below.

Next, select the tab Layout -> Breaks -> Next Page.

At this point, you'll encounter 2 sections, with Section 2 starting from the page where you place the mouse cursor to break the page.
Step 2: Number the pages from the page
Choose Insert -> Page Number -> select position and numbering format. Now, the page numbers will continue sequentially from Section 1 to the end of all sections.

Step 3: Setting up page numbering
Choose Insert -> Page Number -> Format Page Numbers.

In the Format Page Numbers dialog, select the number format in the Number format box, choose Start at as 1 (or any number you wish to start numbering from for each section). Press OK to close.

Once the setup is done, now Section 1 will also have page numbers starting from 1, and Section 2 will also have page numbers starting from 1.

Step 4: Disconnecting the link between two Sections
After setting up Section 2 with page numbers starting from 1, select the Design tab -> uncheck Link to Previous to disconnect the link between the two sections.

Step 5: Removing page numbers from Section 1
Since you only want to number pages from where you've broken the page (Section 2), you need to remove the page numbers from Section 1. Drag up and place the mouse cursor on the page number of Section 1 and select Insert -> Page Number -> Remove Page Numbers.

Thus, the page numbers in Section 1 have been removed, leaving only the page numbers in Section 2.

After numbering the pages, double-click on the blank space on the Word page to exit the header and footer, resulting in:

So, you have successfully numbered the pages from any page in Word 2016; for Word 2007, 2010, 2013, you follow the same steps. Wishing you success!
