Breast milk stands as the sole nutritional source for infants, particularly those under six months old. Lack of understanding on feeding guidelines poses significant dangers, resulting in unforeseen tragic incidents stealing away the lives of innocent babies.
10-Month-Old Baby Passes Away While Bottle Feeding
Around March 2015, a baby girl in Hanoi tragically lost her life while sleeping. The infant was placed on a bed while drinking from a bottle, leading to a fatal accident.
According to the accounts of doctors and family members, the baby didn't directly breastfeed but was fed with milk extracted using a Spectra breast pump, then given a bottle. On the day of the incident, during the baby's feeding time, the mother woke her up to provide the bottle. After finishing the milk, the baby resumed sleeping while the mother went to cook. Several hours later, upon returning, the mother found the baby turning blue. Despite immediate attempts at emergency care, the baby couldn't be saved and passed away at Bach Mai Hospital. The doctor explained that the baby's death resulted from reflux while sleeping. Hence, parents are advised against letting babies lie down immediately after feeding, avoiding playfulness, and gently cradling the baby while keeping a close watch, without leaving them unattended.

Tragic Death of a Ten-Week-Old Infant due to Mother Diluting Breast Milk with Water
Tragic Loss of a Baby Girl in Georgia, USA, due to Diluted Breast Milk
During the initial six months, infants only require breast milk without any additional components, including water. Unfortunately, a mother, lacking knowledge and facing low milk supply, diluted breast milk extracted using a Unimom breast pump with water. Misjudging the adequacy of milk, this led to overhydration, electrolyte imbalance reduction, decreased salt levels, and swelling of the baby's brain. The superstitious parents opted for prayer instead of seeking immediate medical attention. When eventually brought to the hospital, the doctor couldn't save the baby anymore.
