Director Todd Phillips has just confirmed Joker will have a sequel, also sharing crucial details of this new film.
After a period of silence, Todd Phillips, the director of Joker (2019), has recently updated some new information regarding the sequel project of the 'prince of crime in Gotham' Joker portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix. Director Todd Phillips revealed the second part of the famous DC villain brand will be titled Joker: Folie à Deux on June 8th, 2022.

Accompanied by the script photo, director Todd Phillips also included a picture of actor Joaquin Phoenix (who portrays Joker) reading the script. This seemingly confirms Phoenix's return to reprise his role in the highly successful sequel to the 2019 Joker film. Also returning for the sequel is Scott Silver, said to be Todd Phillips' right-hand man, who will contribute to scripting for the sequel.

What many viewers are interested in is how the plot of Joker 2 will unfold? The script name 'Joker: Folie à Deux' is a psychological term referring to a disorder affecting two or more individuals, often within the same family.
Based on the storyline of the first film and the possibility that Thomas Wayne could be Joker's father, it's possible this film will introduce Batman and connect this character with Joker through 'Joker: Folie à Deux'.
In addition, many are thinking about Harley Quinn, the former flame of Joker, and it's highly probable that the next film will feature this new element. The character Harley Quinn in the DC cinematic universe is currently played by the star Margot Robbie. However, Todd Phillip's Joker is a standalone movie, not part of this franchise. Because of this, Harley Quinn's appearance in 'Joker: Folie à Deux' remains an unanswered question.

The first installment of Joker debuted in 2019, receiving much praise from audiences and critics alike. The work grossed over a billion dollars at the box office, setting the record for the highest-grossing R-rated film (for audiences over 18) of all time. The project also received 11 nominations at the 2020 Oscars and won two prestigious categories.
Of course, to know for sure what the movie will be about, we'll have to wait for further information in the coming time. What do you think about the news of Joker officially having a sequel, with the director revealing the script for the new film? Leave your opinion below!
