To add more fun, all the residents of Munich were invited to the field in front of the city gates to join the wedding celebration of King Ludwig I, and the name Oktoberfest was coined from then on.
Oktoberfest beer festival – the extravagant wedding party of the Bavarian king
Oktoberfest, the world's most famous beer festival, originated from the extravagance of King Ludwig I, when he invited all the residents of Munich to participate in a celebratory feast during his wedding on October 12, 1810.
In the early years, the festival's activities mainly consisted of sports competitions such as horse racing, running competitions... as King Ludwig had a penchant for Greek culture and organized events in the style of ancient competitions.

It is called the October festival because it was the time of the wedding of Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese of Saxony Hildburghausen. However, nowadays, Oktoberfest does not take place at the exact time as its name suggests, but starts from the last days of September, extending into the beginning of October.
This festival is increasingly expanding and attracting millions of tourists to attend. Here, tourists will be amazed and excited by the bustling scene, crowded with people chatting and laughing. About 30 beer tents are set up to serve seating for beer drinking. Alongside the beer tents are hundreds of small booths, entertainment areas serving night-time revelers. According to regulations, the beer tents start opening from 10 am and close at 11 pm.
In the tent, tourists will enjoy delicious beer, a sparkling liquid of golden color poured into mugs, sometimes up to a liter. Especially, the beer at the festival will be brewed with more malt and hops, thus having a higher alcohol content.

According to statistics from local German newspapers, the amount of beer consumed in each Oktoberfest season could fill 3 Olympic-standard swimming pools. The number of tourists flocking here reaches millions. The average number each year is 6 million people. In peak years, the number of visitors reaches 7.1 million. Festival organizers also understand their customers quite well, as they allocate nearly 2,000 public toilets so that everyone can 'relieve their sorrows' after moments of joy and excitement at the beer tents.
The beer sellers at the tents in the festival often wear traditional dirndls (for women) and lederhosen (for men) costumes, making many tourists feel like they are lost in the fairy tale world of Germany in those ancient stories.
In addition to beer, the festival also serves dishes such as sausages, grilled chicken, ice cream, and sweets. During the 2 weeks of the festival, it is estimated that tons of meat are consumed.
Games are also an indispensable part here. Two of the most popular games are the giant wheel and the high-speed roller coaster.
The Oktoberfest festival takes place at Theresienwiese Park, Munich, Germany. The meadow where the German king hosted the lavish feast for the people during his later wedding was named Theresienwiese, to show the people's reverence for Queen Therese, the wife of King Ludwig I.
Although it has a history of 206 years, Oktoberfest has officially been held 183 times.
