The Dragon Boat Festival is approaching, let's take a look at the taboos for this day to avoid!
In Vietnam, the Dragon Boat Festival is also known as the 'day of killing pests,' a day to launch campaigns to catch and eliminate harmful insects on crops, many of which are considered nutritious. It is believed that consuming certain foods on this day will kill the pests and parasites in the body.
Methods to eliminate pests on Dragon Boat Festival
According to ancient beliefs, on this day, we should kill pests immediately upon waking up in the early morning, using food such as fermented glutinous rice, rice cakes, and fruits...
For children: In the early morning, while the child is still in bed, feed them fruits, a little fermented glutinous rice, boiled eggs, apply turmeric paste to the forehead, chest, and armpits to kill pests. Then let the child wash their face, hands, feet, and brush their teeth.
For adults: Upon waking up in the morning, do not immediately put your feet on the ground but rinse your mouth three times to clean out pests, then eat a boiled duck egg. Before stepping out of bed, drink a little alcohol (or eat a bowl of fermented glutinous rice) to intoxicate the pests, finally, eat fruits to kill the pests.
