At the Inno Day 2021 event, OPPO unveiled its inaugural smart eyewear called OPPO Air Glass.
Simply put, it's a pair of glasses with capabilities akin to an Ultra-High Definition (UHD) display screen, projecting information like calendars, weather, navigation, health data, received from the wearer's phone or smartwatch. Unlike recent smart glasses, it lacks a contentious camera for privacy concerns and is also not equipped with augmented reality features like those introduced by Google or Microsoft.
OPPO highlights real-time translation as a standout feature. If both individuals wear Air Glass and converse in different languages, the language spoken by one user will be translated into another language and displayed on the lens of the other wearer. Currently, Air Glass only supports translation between English and Mandarin Chinese, but will soon support Japanese and Korean. The entire glasses weigh 30 grams. The metallic frame houses a Micro LED projector designed by Oppo, with dimensions akin to coffee beans, while one side of the frame contains the battery, Snapdragon Wear 4100 chip, speaker, microphone, and touch control panel.
Air Glass features a flexible design, allowing users to wear either one half of the frame or both as usual. Each charge of Air Glass allows for approximately 3 hours of operation and can be controlled via voice commands, head gestures, as well as swiping or tapping on the touch strip. Currently, Air Glass will only function with Oppo smartphones and smartwatches. The latest release is only available in limited quantities in the Chinese market around the first three months of 2022. The selling price has yet to be disclosed.Source: Forbes
