What is the optimal room temperature?

Many households are accustomed to setting the thermostat at 22-23 degrees Celsius, or even lower (typically 15-16 degrees Celsius), and if feeling cold, they add blankets for better sleep. However, in reality, lying on a mattress, covering with blankets, and running the air conditioner at extremely low temperatures are very wasteful. Just increasing the temperature by about 1 degree Celsius can save up to 7-10% of electricity consumption.
Accordingly, to adapt to the climate in Vietnam, households should set the air conditioner at 27-28 degrees Celsius, or even 29 degrees Celsius at night to maximize electricity savings without significantly affecting health.
It should be noted that during peak hot days, setting the room temperature too low and frequently going in and out can cause thermal imbalance, leading to colds or even heat shocks.
Should you use a fan with the air conditioner?

This is a question that many households wonder about, whether using a fan with the air conditioner consumes more electricity or saves more electricity. In reality, the answer depends more on the room conditions, such as whether your room is directly exposed to sunlight, whether it is under a roof, whether it is spacious, and whether there are many objects obstructing airflow.
However, generally speaking, using a fan with the air conditioner is reasonable and does not consume more electricity. The reason is that the fan helps circulate cool air in the room more effectively, cooling down hot spots and thereby reducing the workload for the air conditioner.
If you pay attention, you will notice that although air conditioners with diffusers and fans help push cool air over a wide area. However, the airflow and range of action of the air conditioner cannot be as effective as an electric fan, especially a ceiling fan. Therefore, it is advisable to use both the air conditioner and the fan at all times to optimize the capabilities of both.
How many hours should you use the air conditioner per day?

The actual frequency of air conditioner usage depends largely on the weather conditions outside. On scorching days, with temperatures reaching 39, 40 degrees Celsius like the recent heatwave, you may need to run the air conditioner for 15-20 hours a day. On cooler days, the frequency can decrease to 8-10 hours depending on the conditions.
To answer the question on excessively hot days, whether you can run the air conditioner continuously 24/7 or if it needs to rest, experts in the refrigeration and air conditioning field say: 'It is necessary to differentiate between inverter air conditioners and non-inverter air conditioners.'
Accordingly, inverter air conditioners can run continuously from the moment they are turned on until they are turned off. Non-inverter air conditioners, when running, have breaks (meaning continuous operation but with rest periods). On excessively hot days, non-inverter air conditioners can work continuously 24/7. However, running continuously will reduce the lifespan of the machine. When the machine rests, its lifespan will certainly be extended.
Therefore, we should take advantage of mild air times such as early morning or rainy periods to turn off the air conditioner and let it rest.
Note that using the air conditioner for too long is not good for both adults and children. You should not turn on the air conditioner and sleep for more than 5 hours as it will affect your health.
Should you turn off the air conditioner every time you leave the room?
Although you should not use the air conditioner continuously for long periods, you should also not turn them off when leaving the room for a few minutes. The reason is that the most strenuous operation for the machine is at the beginning, which is to cool down a hot, stuffy room.
This is true when the outside temperature is very high, even just turning off the air conditioner for 5-10 minutes can significantly change the room temperature, and when turned back on, the air conditioner has to cool from the beginning with the highest capacity.

Note when using air conditioning for pregnant women and infants
For infants, the ideal temperature is around 28 - 30 degrees Celsius. For older children, the temperature can be lower. This also applies to pregnant women because setting the temperature too low can affect health.
Additionally, users should also consider turning on a fan for airflow. However, if there are infants, avoid direct wind blowing on them. The room should not have excessively high humidity, and especially avoid using humidifiers, mist fans, etc., in air-conditioned rooms. Simply placing a bowl of water in the room or hanging a damp towel is sufficient.
