Overall Review of Klipsch AW-525 Outdoor Speaker
Planning a garden party? Klipsch is the clear choice. Few speakers project sound as boldly as Klipsch, and the AW-525 outdoor speaker is no exception.
Entertainment-Oriented Marvel: Klipsch AW-525 Speaker
While not a stellar speaker, the Klipsch AW-525 still stands as one of the toughest contenders in this test. It comes in two colors, black and white, with a rugged ABS housing that's truly waterproof and can be painted if desired.
A sturdy C-shaped steel bracket securely holds the speaker and can easily be angled towards a sofa or garden furniture. Here, you get screw-bound posts instead of push terminals, and the overall build quality is very commendable. Within the Klipsch AW lineup, there's a smaller and a larger version, with the AW-525 being the middle child. Behind the rust-resistant grille lies a 5.25-inch bass driver and Klipsch Tractrix horn tweeter.
Sound Quality of Klipsch AW-525
Though Klipsch speakers are among the smaller ones in the test, they deliver superior sound pressure. The small woofer punches well above its weight, and the speakers don't require a monster amplifier to make them engaging.
In our opinion, they sound a bit too harsh, and you have to precisely align the speakers to be within the coverage range of the Tractrix horn. Stand slightly off-axis, and you won't hear the sparkle from the farthest tweeter. Some caveats. The bass here is plenty, it's also well defined, but the midrange sounds somewhat flat, unfocused, and truncated in our view. Klipsch speakers shine brightest with rhythmic music and Ariana Grande for truly smooth and fresh sound, but they're definitely not for audiophile listening.
Final Verdict
The Klipsch AW-525 is truly a party animal of an outdoor speaker. However, your musical preferences may be the deciding factor in choosing this speaker or any other in the test. Better sound can be found elsewhere, but few speakers at this size can play as hard as these. If you have limited space for speaker placement but a wide garden, then the Klipsch AW-525 is a solid choice. However, neighbors may not agree.
