The writer had a deep love affair with a Saigon girl named Phượng, but due to harsh conditions at that time, the relationship didn't materialize, lingering for two centuries in longing and separation. To evoke beautiful memories of his first love with that girl, in front of his workspace window, Tô Hoài always hung a basket of seaweed.

- Summary: Cricket has the appearance of a robust, healthy young man but with a volatile, arrogant, self-centered personality. He always looked down on and refused to help his neighbor, the skinny, frail Cricket Mouse. Furthermore, Cricket played tricks on Mrs. Beetle, causing Cricket Mouse to die unfairly. Through Cricket's death and Cricket Mouse's forgiving words advising Cricket to abandon his cruel, unruly nature, Cricket deeply regretted. This is also the first life lesson of Cricket.
