In 1984, Phra Ajaan Fan Ajarayo, a renowned Buddhist philosopher on Vipassana Meditation, entrusted his disciples with a 10-day pilgrimage to northeastern Thailand. Consequently, Mrs. Piyawan and Mr. Olarn Weerawan, along with the group, embarked on a pilgrimage in the provinces of Sakon Nakhon and Udon Thani. There, the group visited a forest monastery in Ban Na Kham Noi, Udon Thani, and deeply appreciated the diligent practice of Phra Ajaarn Inthawai Santussago, a monk residing in the monastery. Hence, they volunteered to support the monastery in seeking permission to utilize land within the National Park Conservation Area to establish a forest monastery named Wat Pah Na Kham Noi.
Subsequently, Phra Ajarn Inthawai guided the group to survey the Phu Kon forest area, which was undergoing sawmill concession at the time. The group then decided to construct a monastery. To accomplish this, they appointed the venerable Chali Dhiradhammo as the team leader, completed the formalities to seek permission from the Royal Forestry Department to utilize land in Na Yung - Nam Som National Park to build the monastery, and obtained permission from the Royal Forestry Department. The permit was granted on January 9, 1987. Later, on November 11, 1987, the Ministry of Education recognized 'Wat Pa Phu Kon' as a Buddhist forest monastery.
