The Inuyasha Fandom War Still Rages After Many Years
Although it premiered 25 years ago, Inuyasha (Dog Demon) remains one of the timeless anime classics, loved and debated by audiences to this day. Not only does Inuyasha possess captivating fantasy content, but it also sparks controversy with its intricate love triangle involving protagonist Inuyasha, Kagome, and Kikyo. This topic continues to be dissected and discussed by Vietnamese fans.

Although Inuyasha ultimately marries Kagome with a beautiful conclusion, Kikyo remains his enduring first love. In the past, Kikyo was the guardian of the Shikon Jewel and was once Inuyasha's lover. However, their relationship was sabotaged by the antagonist Naraku, leading to Kikyo being severely injured in a battle with Inuyasha before passing away. Before her death, she wished for the Shikon Jewel to return to Inuyasha, making her the precursor to the main female protagonist Kagome. However, midway through the series, Kikyo is unexpectedly revived, creating a tangled plot.

Many Vietnamese fans express strong aversion towards the Inuyasha - Kikyo couple, especially regarding the kiss Inuyasha gives Kikyo as she is about to disappear forever. It's understandable for Inuyasha to mourn his tragic first love, but his indecision between the two girls leads to audience frustration and condemnation.
The gratuitous kissing scene of Inuyasha in the final moments beside Kikyo, in front of Kagome

Discussion among Vietnamese netizens:
- At this point, just drop the film, Inuyasha is already a mess, not clean anymore, both Kikyo and Kagome are pitiful...
- When I was young, I always hoped for this couple to be together, but now watching it, I feel more sorry for Kagome. Growing up makes me realize there are too many conflicts between Kikyo and Inuyasha, love couldn't last long.
- This scene is quite reasonable for the relationship between Kikyo and Inuyasha, like saying goodbye to the past and letting her rest in peace. But why doesn't the author let Kagome go somewhere, sitting behind 'watching a movie' suddenly...?
- Both of them are to blame, Inuyasha is not transparent, just too serious in love, which ends up hurting both Kikyo and Kagome.
However, there are also some attempts to justify Kagome and Kikyo's relationship as one (because Kagome is Kikyo's reincarnation), but this is not correct. Regardless, Kagome is still Kagome, she is not Kikyo. Moreover, at least in the anime version, Inuyasha's ambivalence is very clear, shown through some details like wholeheartedly protecting Kagome but still loving Kikyo or feeling jealous when someone approaches Kagome and Kikyo. Inuyasha kissing Kikyo in front of Kagome is also an extremely uncomfortable detail, especially for female fans.

After all, the debate about this love triangle in Inuyasha never comes to an end. Perhaps in matters of the heart, no one can be blamed, especially someone whose heart leads over reason like Inuyasha. However, we cannot overlook the emotions of Kagome and Kikyo - the girls who sacrificed too much for themselves and others throughout the movie.
