Recently, on flight VJ126 from Saigon to Hanoi, a passenger was fined 4 million dong for smoking in the aircraft lavatory. In addition to the smoking ban, Vietnamese airlines and foreign airlines operating in airspace managed by Vietnam also impose penalties for other violations.

Here are some violations and fines that many Vietnamese travelers encounter when flying, based on Decree 147 on administrative penalties in the civil aviation sector:

Carrying liquids on board: Warning or fines of 100,000 – 500,000 dong.

Smoking on board: The penalty for this violation is 3-5 million dong. If a passenger smokes in a prohibited area within the airport, the fine is 5-10 million dong.

Life jacket theft: The penalty is 5-10 million dong if a passenger steals a life jacket on board. In case a passenger tears the life jacket voluntarily, they will be fined 1-3 million dong.

Unauthorized opening of emergency exits: Fine of 10-20 million dong.

Disengaging seat belts without permission: This behavior violates instructions regarding ensuring order, security, and aviation safety, with a fine of 1-3 million dong.

Using a phone on board: The penalty is 3-5 million dong. In addition to phones, the regulations also prohibit other electronic devices, transmitters, and receivers in general.

Using counterfeit documents: Passengers entering quarantine areas, boarding planes with forged identification papers or boarding passes of others, will be fined 5-10 million dong.

Causing disturbance, shouting on an airplane: Fine of 5-10 million dong. This is also the penalty for passengers disrupting security and order in restricted areas of airports and places with civil aviation facilities and equipment.

Theft in airports, on airplanes: The penalty is 5-10 million dong.

Assaulting airline staff: Fine of 5-10 million dong.

Damaging airplane seats: Fine of 3-5 million dong for damaging equipment, facilities of the aircraft.

Spreading bomb threats: The penalty is 3-5 million dong. If the statement is threatening, the fine could be up to 20-30 million dong.

In cases where passengers do not pay fines, the highest penalty will be imposed, which is a flight ban.
