II. Sample Persuasive Essay to Encourage Others to Overcome Gender Bias:
In today's society, the third gender community is growing stronger and exerting significant influence on society. Alongside those who support this group, there are still many individuals who lack an objective and fair perspective, displaying prejudice against others based on gender.
Typically when considering individuals of different genders, most people explain gender based on biological characteristics. However, in reality, there are many individuals who belong to the third gender. This group, abbreviated as LGBT, includes lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgender individuals. They may love people of the same gender, both genders, or undergo physical surgery to transition from male to female and vice versa.
It cannot be denied that in recent years, with the development of social media and multimedia communication, people have become more open-minded about the LGBTQ+ community and transgender individuals. However, the perception of a portion of Vietnamese people about gender is not yet fully comprehensive, leading them to believe that same-sex affection is a manifestation of mental illness, behavioral deviation, and psychological imbalance. Prejudice and discrimination against individuals of different genders are manifested in various degrees and aspects. This can range from teasing, mocking, and sarcasm to even more severe acts such as violence against LGBTQ+ individuals.
This situation stems from various causes, with the most important being the limitation in understanding, and even misconceptions, about same-sex tendencies in Vietnam. Due to a lack of knowledge about LGBTQ+ individuals, bisexuals, and transgender people, many believe that homosexuals cannot have children. Furthermore, Vietnamese culture highly values traditional norms, especially in maintaining lineage, so this group is often despised and marginalized. Those norms dictate that men should be strong and tough, while women should be gentle and delicate. This mindset deeply ingrains in the subconscious of every Vietnamese citizen. Therefore, behaviors considered as 'deviating from norms' by LGBTQ+ individuals are seen as abnormal and 'diseased'.
Clearly, individuals of the third gender are still striving for societal acceptance. The attitudes, behaviors, and treatment from those around them often lead them into a state of isolation with no way out. They must conceal their gender and true sexual orientation to meet the expectations of family, friends, and society. For those who are more daring, they dare to express themselves outwardly, but in many cases, they are prohibited and condemned by their families, subjected to violence, and even sent to medical centers or subjected to spiritual rituals in an attempt to change their gender. Faced with the scrutinizing eyes and questioning of others, they live in seclusion, closed off, enduring both physical and mental pain.
