Pixel 8 may soon be able to output images to an external monitor, functioning like a personal computer similar to Samsung DeX.

According to a mysterious source speaking to Android Authority, Pixel 8 is rumored to support image output via USB-C port using Display Port standard to an external monitor, while still being able to charge the battery and transfer data simultaneously. Paired with the ability to connect a keyboard and mouse via Bluetooth, Pixel 8 or Pixel 8 Pro could transform into a true personal computer, operating through a tailored interface suitable for large screens or Android 14 tablets.

Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro are expected to be introduced in October similar to Google's previous generations of Android smartphones. Alongside details about specifications, such as Tensor G3 chip, image sensors, and display specifications, another promising detail has emerged, suggesting Pixel 8 will become an even more useful tool for users.

Previously, snippets of code purportedly serving desktop display mode, transforming phones into personal computers, have been uncovered in the source code of Android 13 and Android 14.

This feature, as the title suggests, mirrors exactly what Samsung has been doing for many years with DeX, allowing devices like the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy Z Fold4 to become personal computers, connecting to monitors via USB-C port, and peripheral devices via Bluetooth for control. Samsung DeX first appeared on the Galaxy S8 and S8+ 6 years ago. After several generations requiring users to have a DeX docking station to connect their phones to the monitor, now all you need is a monitor that can receive DisplayPort standard image signals via USB-C port, with a cable with sufficient bandwidth.

Or even since 2020, Wireless DeX has been introduced, allowing devices like the Galaxy Note 9 and later to wirelessly stream image signals to a monitor or TV.
