A location tied to the song lyrics “Pleiku Lake, eyes full,” featuring pristine azure waters year-round, and the tranquil lifestyle of fishermen on the lake.
Pleiku Lake
Lake (also known as Tơ Nuêng, Ea Nueng, or T’Nưng Lake) covers an area of nearly 300 hectares, situated at an altitude of around 800 meters above sea level. With fresh air in a cool climate area, this spot is deemed the most beautiful natural lake in the Central Highlands.
Located 7 km from Pleiku city center,
The scenic attraction Lake, part of the Ecological Tourism Area of Pleiku Lake - Chư Đăng Ya, boasts a strip of land extending into the middle of the lake, providing visitors with a panoramic view, with cool green pine forests flanking both sides of the path.
A part of the lake area lies to the west in Nghĩa Hưng commune, Chư Pah district, separated by a spillway and a suspension bridge near the tourist area.
“Pleiku Lake with mountain clouds and sky reflecting on the water gives me an unusually peaceful feeling. Drifting on the boat in the morning, breathing in the fresh air, and watching the fishermen's work here is a very refreshing experience,” photographer Phan Nguyên, currently living in Pleiku, shared.
Pleiku Lake is suitable for year-round exploration and offers many interesting experiences for tourists. Gia Lai is entering the dry season, revealing patches of fertile red soil by the lake, attracting many rare bird species for feeding.
During the rainy season, the rising water creates large waves crashing onto the shore like at the sea. On chilly days, fog covers the lake surface, gently drifting over the pine rows. As the weather transitions from rainy to dry season, clusters of vibrant wild sunflowers bloom along the lake.
According to historical and geographical documents, T’Nưng Lake is actually an extinct volcano that ceased activity hundreds of millions of years ago. T’Nưng in the language of the Jrai people means “sea on the mountain.” Additionally, the vastness of this body of water resembles the sea, hence the local people named it Pleiku Lake.
