POCO C40 features the JR510 processor, a relatively new entrant in today's market.Arguably the most distinctive aspect of POCO C40 lies in its processor. Instead of opting for familiar chips from major brands like Qualcomm or MediaTek, POCO takes a bold step by equipping the device with the JR510, considered a 'rising star' in the current market, developed and produced by JQL Technology. So, how does this processor contribute to the performance of POCO C40?
JR510 comes from JQL Technology - one of the emerging chip manufacturers in China. To give you a clearer picture, this chip has 8 cores, including 4 large cores clocked at 2.0 GHz, accompanied by 4 Cortex A55 cores clocked at 1.5 GHz, and a Mali-G52 GPU. This processor has previously been featured in budget-friendly devices, providing sufficient performance for your everyday tasks with ease.
POCO C40 effortlessly handles your basic tasks! After hands-on experience, I found that POCO C40 performs admirably in basic tasks such as web browsing, video watching, and social media activities. Moreover, the device can handle popular games, beloved by today's youth, quite well with suitable graphics settings. Without keeping you waiting, let's dive into gaming with POCO C40 to see how the device performs!
Is POCO C40 smooth for gaming?
For this gaming test, I selected 4 trending games: Arena of Valor, Free Fire, PUBG Mobile, and Play Together to assess the real-world performance of POCO C40. During the gaming experience, I used the Perfdog app to record and you can refer to more detailed FPS data and graphics settings here!
How does POCO C40 deliver the gaming experience?- Arena of Valor
Starting with the most popular game nowadays, Arena of Valor. In this national game, I set the graphics to low and pushed the FPS to the maximum for a smoother experience during tower-breaking battles. You can have a more detailed view of the graphics settings I chose through the images below.
With the settings above, we can easily notice that POCO C40 provides a pretty good gaming experience. While the image quality in the game is not crystal clear, it's not too bad and is acceptable. In the gameplay video below, the colors are vibrant and realistic. Thanks to pushing the FPS to the maximum, the frame rate and controls run quite smoothly. Though there are occasional FPS drops in certain situations when two teams clash, it doesn't significantly impact my gaming experience.
- Free Fire
Moving on to another popular game, Free Fire. In this game, I cranked up the graphics to the highest and set the frame rate to High (equivalent to 60 FPS).
Graphics settings for Free Fire on POCO C40.The results are quite impressive as POCO C40 can maintain a frame rate of 60 FPS quite well in Free Fire. Although there are some intense combat scenes causing a slight drop in FPS, it never goes below 35 FPS, ensuring minimal impact on my gaming experience. Overall, both image quality and frame rate are well displayed at this graphics setting, so feel free to push both graphics and FPS to the maximum if you prefer!
- PUBG Mobile
Next up is the highly popular shooting game, PUBG Mobile. What surprised me is that in this game, POCO C40 can achieve an Extremely High frame rate when I reduce the image quality to Smooth. Personally, I find this to be something that not every device in the same price range as POCO C40 can achieve when playing this game. It's a definite plus point that I believe makes POCO C40 worthy of recognition.
While it's possible to set it to 40 FPS, during gameplay, the frame rate tends to drop slightly when performing aiming and running actions, hovering around 25 - 35 FPS. Sometimes the device encounters lag, but it's not too frequent, and I find it acceptable. Overall, with a device at the mid-range configuration and price like POCO C40, these are relatively decent experiences when playing a game that demands speed, movement, and frequent scene transitions like PUBG Mobile.
- Play Together
In the last game, Play Together, I configured the graphics as shown below for your reference.
Graphics settings for Play Together on POCO C40.Personally, when playing Play Together on POCO C40, I found the experience not as good as the three games above. There's quite a bit of lag, frame delays occur frequently, especially when running, and I noticed FPS fluctuating a lot during measurements. However, in the 'Game Party' and while fishing, these issues seldom occur. Despite the frequent FPS drops, overall, if you set the graphics as shown, you can still easily go fishing with friends!
Those were my experiences and evaluations while playing various games on POCO C40. Overall, the JR510 processor still provides a decent gaming performance compared to other budget-friendly products. While it may not excel in specifications and possess top-notch gaming capabilities, based on my testing, POCO C40 can still meet your entertainment needs through various game titles!
Performance Rating for POCO C40
For the performance rating, I will use common benchmarking software such as GeekBench 5, 3DMark, and PCMark to give you a more visual insight into the power of POCO C40.
Specific conditions for scoring are as follows:
- Battery must be between 90 - 100% (battery below 90% will affect the device's performance and results).
- Do not charge the battery while scoring.
- Score 3 times consecutively and take the average result after 3 rounds.
What is the performance score of POCO C40?Firstly, I used two applications, Geekbench 5 and PCMark, to measure the single-core, multi-core, and 3D scores of POCO C40, resulting in the following specific scores:
- GeekBench 5:
- Single-core/Multi-core score: 169/906.
- GPU Compute (graphics score): 520.
- PCMark (3D Mark score): 5,028.
Based on the scores from the two tests, personally, I assess these scores to be quite fitting within the general landscape of the smartphone market segment priced below 4 million VND.
GeekBench 5 scores (left and center) and PCMark score (right) for POCO C40.Unfortunately, with POCO C40, I couldn't perform the Wild Life Extreme and Wild Life Extreme Stress Test in the 3DMark app. Due to the app's current incompatibility with the device, as well as the recent launch of POCO C40, the manufacturer hasn't been able to update this aspect promptly. Therefore, the developments and efficiency when the device operates under complex conditions have not been clearly verified. In the future, when POCO has updated the software, I will provide specific details about the scores of these two tests that POCO C40 achieves.
Unfortunately, POCO C40 couldn't be benchmarked with the 3DMark app.How long can you use POCO C40 with its robust 6,000mAh battery?
Highlighting a device emphasizing battery capacity, with a massive 6,000mAh, how long can POCO C40 last? To answer that, I'll conduct a battery test with the 4 games I played in the gaming test section: Liên Quân Mobile, Free Fire, PUBG Mobile, Play Together, under the following conditions:
- Play a single game until the device runs out of battery (from 100% to 0%).
- Screen brightness set to 100%.
- Continuous use of wired earphones at 100% volume.
- Wi-Fi on, receiving social media notifications.
- Do not enable battery saver mode, gaming support, adaptive brightness, GPS, and Bluetooth.
- Record from 100% at unplugging until 0%.
POCO C40 boasts a robust 6,000mAh battery. The results are as follows:
- PUBG Mobile: 6 hours 24 minutes.
- Play Together: 6 hours 43 minutes.
- Liên Quân Mobile: 7 hours 19 minutes.
- Free Fire: 7 hours 19 minutes.
Results of continuous gaming test with 4 titles on POCO C40This is an impressive result, living up to my expectations for the extended usage provided by POCO C40's large battery. You can see that POCO C40 enables easy 'gaming sessions' with a considerable duration, averaging between 6 - 7 hours. Moreover, if you only use the device for work or study purposes, I believe this figure will not only stop at the level mentioned but can go even higher. Therefore, if you are looking for a device with long-lasting battery life throughout a day or more, I think POCO C40 will be an excellent choice!
