About two weeks ago, Niantic announced that the company was striving to adjust Pokémon GO to enable players to comfortably play the game at home. With a large portion of Pokémon GO fans currently in isolation due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the ability to participate in gaming events is limited. Part of these changes includes an update that allows Trainers to join Raid battles without leaving their homes. Raid battles have been open in Pokémon GO since April 27.
Pokémon GO introduces Remote Raid Battles, encourages players to game from home
Update to the latest version of Pokémon GO here:
While initially this feature was only available to level 40 Trainers, now Trainers above level 5 can use the Nearby screen to join any Raid battles they see. Players can also use their map to search for nearby Raid battles. To participate in a Raid battle, players need to use a Remote Raid Pass. These Remote Raid Passes can be purchased at the in-game shop with PokéCoins.
As mentioned in the prior announcement, Niantic will continue to roll out updates following this initial release. The company has outlined plans to adjust the number of players able to participate remotely, as well as allowing players to invite friends to join Raid battles.
