Ryme City, the habitat of Pokémon, is a fusion of various real-world locations from countries like England, Scotland, the United States, Japan...
Pokémon Metropolis and its real-life inspirations beyond the screen

Sharing with The Culture Trip, Nigel Phelps, the designer of the Pokémon movie, revealed: “Ryme City plays a central role in the film Pokémon: Detective Pikachu. The homes of these Pokémon characters are created based on famous landmarks around the world in London (England), New York (USA), Tokyo (Japan)”. Most scenes were shot in London around Square Mile, the financial district of the capital. Photo: SALT.agency.

One of the inspirations for creating the city for Pokémon is The Chessgrater building. Located at 122 Leadenhall Street, the Leadenhall project is a 225m tall commercial skyscraper. This building was officially opened in 2014 and is known as “The Chessgrater” because of its resemblance to a slice of cheese. Photo: Falicsa.pw, Pinterest.

Broadgate Tower is also a skyscraper in London's financial district. It was built from 2005 to 2009. You'll catch a glimpse of this tower somewhere in the virtual world version of Ryme City. Photo: Canacopegdl, New London Development.

The design of the film's backdrop also includes the appearance of 201 Bishopsgate. These two buildings are separated by the green boulevard of bamboo forests bathed in light. Photo: Broadgate.

The Lloyd’s building is located on the former site of East India House on Lime Street, in London's financial district. It stands out with its exterior elevators designed to maximize space. Its unique design also makes it a material for designing the Pokémon city. This place is recognized as one of the important structures of the modern era. Photo: Staging.collabor8, Online.co.uk.

The city designer in the Pokémon movie also mentioned glimpses of the beautiful plateaus in Scotland. The forests and mountains here are popular destinations for hikers, mountaineers, and mountain bikers. Photo: Visit Scotland.

The Orchy Valley stretches over 17 km in Scotland and is also material for designing the famous city in the film. Visitors can kayak, boat, and fish in this valley. Photo: Warren Photographic.

Finnich Glen is a stunning moss-covered gorge highlighted by a river with pinkish-green rocks in Scotland. This magical location is known as one of the prominent scenes in the Pokémon: Detective Pikachu movie. It's a magnet for photography enthusiasts and nature lovers. Photo: Leading Lines.
