During their recent annual meeting, Porsche shared their visionary plans for the electric vehicle landscape, emphasizing their ongoing research and development of an all-electric version for the compact SUV Macan and the 2-door sports car 718. Information about the electric Macan has been revealed over the past few years, and Porsche has confirmed that the future Macan lineup will exclusively offer electric powertrains.Porsche's electric Macan will be built on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) of the VW Group, a platform that will also be used across a range of Audi and Porsche products in the future. With an 800-volt architecture similar to the Taycan, the electric Macan will support rapid charging up to 270 kilowatts. The vehicle will have 2 different battery options. According to the German luxury high-performance car manufacturer, the electric Macan will have a significantly larger operating range than the Taycan, exceeding 365 km per charge. For the 718 successor, Porsche announces a shift to electric power, drawing inspiration from the Mission R, an electric racing concept introduced by Porsche last year. The electric Macan is anticipated to debut in 2023, while the timeline for the electric 718 remains undisclosed.
In addition to their electric vehicle lineup, Porsche unveils their upcoming plans related to dedicated infrastructure for this vehicle category. The German luxury car brand reveals intentions to establish a separate charging station network, with the aim of achieving 80% of their sales as electric vehicles by 2030.Currently, Porsche electric vehicle users rely on third-party charging stations, specifically Ionity, a collaborative venture with Ford, BMW, Daimler, and Volkswagen, Porsche's parent company. Porsche's charging stations will be strategically installed along major routes in Austria, Germany, and Switzerland, starting from the end of this year.Porsche envisions their charging stations as luxurious lounges, providing electric vehicle owners a place to enjoy refreshments and relax while waiting for their vehicles to charge fully. Porsche's executives mention they are considering expanding this branded charging network to China and the United States in the future.
