Question 1 page 79 Textbook Literature 10 - Volume 1
- To express her feelings to the little boy, Thị Mầu used:
+ Language: eloquence, praising with lavish words, teasing.
+ Actions: teasing song, crouch, come out and hold hands with Little Mirror.
- The repeated call 'Teacher Little oh!' emphasizes the infatuation with Little Mirror, expressing Thị Mầu's feelings.
- The most impressive expression is the emotional declaration 'Teacher, like an apple falling in the yard/ I, like a girl, sneaking around, craving for sourness' as Thị Mầu metaphorically compares the little teacher to a fallen apple in the yard while portraying herself as a girl yearning for the sour taste. It shows Thị Mầu's longing for love and extreme desire to possess.
Question 2 page 79 Textbook Literature 10 - Volume 1
Through the language and actions of the character Little Mirror in the excerpt, I see this character as behaving modestly, courteously, and maintaining the dignity of a devoted practitioner.
Question 3 page 79 Textbook Literature 10 - Volume 1
I agree with the folk author's evaluation because all of Mầu's words and actions contradict common standards, demonstrating her as a frivolous and unrestrained woman.
Question 4 page 79 Textbook Literature 10 - Volume 1
In my opinion, the character Thị Mầu is a frivolous woman. All her words and actions are inappropriate according to the norms of ancient society. Thị Mầu is constructed by the folk author to criticize women who behave immoderately. In the solemn monastery, Thị Mầu is willing to utter reckless words like 'Mock Mô Phật', 'Abandon Mô Phật!', teasing and frightening the little boy away. Moreover, she goes out and holds hands with Kính Tâm, using every means to break gender boundaries. Therefore, for me, the character Thị Mầu deserves condemnation and criticism for not maintaining the modesty of a woman with 'three subordinations and four virtues'.
