1. Why is the location described in the poem called the “gate of heaven”?
Answer:
The location in the poem is called the “gate of heaven” because it is a high pass between two cliffs, from the top of which one can see a stretch of sky, with flying clouds and breezes, creating a feeling as if it were a gateway to the sky.
2. Describe the beauty of the natural scenery in the poem.
Answer:
Through the mystical haze, from the gate of heaven, one can see an endless space, forests full of trees and a myriad of colors of flowers and grass, golden ripe fields and honey-colored valleys, with the sky filled with drifting clouds and breezes. In the distance, white waterfalls cascade down from the high mountains echoing like the music of the earth and sky. Beside the cool stream winding at the foot of the mountain, the goats leisurely reflect themselves in the water. The space is so pristine, as if stepping into a dreamland.
3. Among the described scenes, which scene do you like the most? Why?
Answer:
I like the image of standing at the gate of heaven, looking up to see the airy space with drifting clouds, as if ascending to the sky, stepping into the mystical world of fairy tales.
4. What made the cold misty forest seem warm?
Answer:
The cold misty forest seemed warm because of human presence. Everyone is busy with work, the Tay people are harvesting rice and planting vegetables, the Giang and Dao people are searching for mushrooms, the sound of horse-drawn carts echoes through the wild forest, and the green-dyed clothes flutter in the afternoon sun.
