Surely each of us remembers the folk saying: 'No matter which way you go, remember the anniversary of our Ancestors on the 10th of March.' This folk saying has reminded us of the roots of our nation. As you and your friends know, the anniversary of Hung Kings is a major celebration for the entire nation. This is not only an occasion for the Vietnamese people to remember their origins but also a time for each person to express gratitude to the generations of ancestors who contributed to building and protecting the country.
The Hung Temple Festival is held from the 1st to the 10th day of the third lunar month every year at Nghia Linh Mountain, Hy Cuong Commune, Viet Tri City, Phu Tho Province. The festival is divided into two main parts: the ritual part and the festive part.
Firstly, the ceremony to commemorate the National Ancestor Lac Long Quan and the ceremony to offer incense to the Mother Goddess Au Co will be held on the 6th day of the third lunar month. On the 10th day, the main day of the festival, people will conduct a procession and offer incense at the Upper Temple. The royal procession starts from the foot of the mountain, passes through each temple, and ends at the Upper Temple, where the incense offering ceremony takes place. During the incense offering ceremony, people will offer sacrifices to the altar of the kings to show their gratitude.
After the ceremony, there are many lively and interesting activities such as bronze drumming, wrestling at the Cong Quan area, performing Xoan singing of the ancient village, performing water puppetry. Some folk games and contests further enliven the atmosphere of the festival, making it more vibrant and joyful. These include competitions for making and wrapping cakes, cooking banh chung and pounding banh giay, swimming contests on the Văn Lang park lake,... These are all activities that both locals and tourists eagerly anticipate, participate in, and enjoy.
