Before considering the worst-case scenario, thoroughly prepare yourself to never encounter it.
Always keep your passport on you. Invest in a specialized pouch to wear inside your clothing, serving as a secure place for money. If using a bag or backpack, keep it on your shoulder and avoid taking it out until reaching your hotel.
Have readily available 4x6 white background photos (the type used for passports) and never clip them with your passport. Keep them in a separate place. If you lose your passport, you won't have to struggle to find a photo studio and wait for processing.

Always have a photocopy of your passport and ID card, and avoid attaching them with your passport.
Memorize the address and phone number of the Embassy or Consulate of Vietnam in the respective country.
If you lose your passport, the first thing to do is stay calm, avoid panicking. Remain composed and reflect on where and under what circumstances you might have lost it. Return to suspected areas if nearby, then immediately report to the nearest police station. Reporting to the police is effective in some developed countries with a high level of legal systems and social civility. Nevertheless, don't miss any opportunity.
After reporting to the nearest police station, contact the embassy or consulate immediately to inquire about the procedures for obtaining a new passport. Also, ask for directions to the diplomatic office to ensure a smooth journey.
Always keep money and credit cards (if you have two or more) in various places to guard against the possibility of losing your passport along with your wallet, bag, or backpack. Use the reserve funds to go online and find information on addresses, transportation, and sustenance until you reach the Vietnamese embassy or consulate in the respective country.
Purchasing travel insurance before setting out is always a smart choice because in cases of illness, loss, accidents, and more, insurance can have a significant impact.
Preparing a few basic communication phrases or just a few important words can also help you navigate through many seemingly inescapable situations.
