
Handwashing remains the primary measure to prevent Covid-19. Additionally, it is advisable to clean household floors, surfaces, and doorknobs with cleaning agents every day.
1. Preventive Measures for Covid-19
Handwashing is the primary preventive measure against Covid-19. Furthermore, it is recommended to sanitize household floors, surfaces, and doorknobs with cleaning agents daily.
The Covid-19 acute pneumonia epidemic causes symptoms such as fever, cough; more severe causing pneumonia, acute respiratory distress syndrome, and even death, especially in the elderly and those with chronic diseases. The disease spreads from person to person, currently there is no specific vaccine and treatment drug.
As of March 8, Vietnam has recorded 30 cases of Covid-19, of which 16 people have recovered. The Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization (WHO) have issued a series of recommendations for preventing Covid-19 as follows.
Basic protective measures
Avoid close contact with patients, suspected patients. In cases of contact with these individuals, masks should be worn and a minimum distance of two meters maintained.
Wash hands frequently with soap and running water for at least 30 seconds or with hand sanitizer containing at least 60% alcohol. Times to wash hands include:
Before, during and after cooking;
Before eating;
After coughing, sneezing;
After removing a mask;
After caring for sick or suspected individuals;
After contact with nasal secretions, throat of sick or suspected individuals;
After using the toilet;
After contact with animals or animal waste.
Avoid touching eyes, nose, mouth.
Cough and sneeze into the elbow or tissue, then immediately discard the tissue into a covered trash can and wash hands.
When in crowded places, wear masks and wash hands as soon as possible. Masks must cover both the nose and mouth, when wearing absolutely do not touch the face. Healthy people, not suffering from respiratory diseases do not need to use masks unless necessary or can use fabric masks to protect their health.
Keep warm, exercise, eat well and drink enough nutrients to improve health.
Clean the floor, surface of utensils, door handles with regular cleaning agents. Always keep the room ventilated, limit the use of air conditioning.
Stay at home if feeling unwell, even if only experiencing mild symptoms such as headache and runny nose. If experiencing fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical attention immediately.
Update and follow the guidance of local health authorities.
Protecting those around from infection
Cough and sneeze into the elbow or tissue, then discard the tissue immediately.
Wash hands with alcohol-based hand sanitizer or soap and clean water after coughing, sneezing and after caring for the sick.
Avoid close contact with others when you have a cough and fever.
Do not spit indiscriminately in public places.
If experiencing fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical help immediately and share your travel schedule with health workers. Those who have contact with patients, suspected cases or enter from epidemic areas must report to the nearest health facility through the hotlines 1900 3228 or 1900 9095 of the Ministry of Health to be guided on timely isolation.
6 groups of nCoV-related people must be self-isolated at home
The subjects to be isolated at home are those who do not have symptoms suggestive of nCoV infection (cough, fever, difficulty breathing) and have one of the following factors:
First, people living in the same house, residence with confirmed cases or suspected cases during the illness.
Second, people working with confirmed cases or suspected cases during the illness.
Third, people in travel groups, working groups, entertainment groups with confirmed cases or suspected cases during the illness.
Fourth, people who have close contact within 2 meters with confirmed cases or suspected cases during the illness in any situation.
Fifth, people sitting in the same row or in front of or behind two rows on the same plane/train/carriage with confirmed cases or suspected cases also need to be isolated at home.
Protecting health while traveling
Avoid traveling if you have a fever, cough. If you have a fever, cough or difficulty breathing, quickly seek medical help and share your travel schedule with health workers.
Avoid close contact with people who have a fever, cough. Frequently wash hands with alcohol-based hand sanitizer or soap and clean water. Avoid touching eyes, nose, mouth.
Cough and sneeze into your elbow or tissue, then discard the tissue and wash your hands. If wearing a mask, make sure the mask covers the nose and mouth tightly. Avoid touching the mask when worn. Discard the mask and wash hands immediately after use.
If feeling unwell while traveling, notify transportation staff and seek medical help immediately. Share your travel schedule with health workers.
Only eat thoroughly cooked food.
Do not spit in public places.
Do not have close contact or travel with sick animals.
The Ministry of Health stipulates that from 6 a.m. on March 7, all passengers entering Vietnam (including Vietnamese and foreigners) must declare electronic health. Ho Chi Minh City implements electronic declaration from 0h on March 7. Passengers declare electronic health on the website https://tokhaiyte.vn or https://suckhoetoandan.vn/khaiyte, can use QR code.
After declaring health, those who come or pass through epidemic areas will be concentratedly isolated for 14 days. So far, four countries including China, South Korea, Iran, Italy are designated as epidemic areas.
Coping with stress during the epidemic season
Feeling sad, stressed, anxious, scared and angry is normal when faced with crises. Talk to trusted friends like friends and family.
If staying at home, maintain a healthy lifestyle including a scientific diet, enough sleep, exercise and keep in touch with family, friends via email or phone.
Do not smoke, drink alcohol or use any stimulants to cope with emotions. If feeling overwhelmed, you should see a healthcare professional or counselor.
Update information through reputable websites and local health authorities.
Limit access to negative news on the media to reduce anxiety, agitation.
Use useful emotional management methods during previous crises.
