If you want users to be able to edit the content of a Word document but cannot modify important information such as author names embedded in the Header or Footer of the document, then follow this article.
Open the data file you've created for your Header and Footer.
Step 1: Place the cursor at the first line of the document. Press the Page Layout tab -> Break -> Continuous.

Step 2: Choose the Review tab -> Restrict Editing.

Step 3: A dialog box appears -> check Allow only this type of editing in the document -> select Filling in forms.

Step 4: Check Select Sections -> a dialog box appears, uncheck Sections 2 -> OK.

Step 5: Click Yes, Start Enforcing Protection -> a dialog box appears, enter the password -> OK.

Open this file again and ensure you can only edit content, not Header and Footer.
Note: If after protecting Header and Footer you wish to edit them again, click Stop Protection.
