Elderly folks often reminisce and seek a place where our parents can relive their youthful years, filled with joy and mischief. That place is Quê Nhà Restaurant.
Saigon bustles incessantly, never ceasing its relentless activity, yet amidst this chaos, there lies a need for tranquility. I discovered, for myself and my family, a sanctuary to slow down.

The verdant ambiance of Quê Nhà amidst the bustling heart of Saigon.
A unique and verdant oasis amidst Saigon
It boasts the subdued red of bricks and tiles, the lush greenery of trees, and the earthy brown of water jars. Those hailing from humble rural backgrounds like mine, or seeking a cool, tranquil spot, should visit Quê Nhà Restaurant.

My family arrives early in the afternoon to listen to the melodious chirping of birds and allow ample time for the children to frolic.
What captivates me most here are the contemporary lanterns adorned with traditional fish-catching baskets. They exude both brilliance and simplicity, indescribable in essence. In the 20th century, owning a Babetta motorcycle was a hallmark of immense wealth for any family. Today, these motorcycles have all but vanished.

Two elderly couples are happily enjoying themselves over there.
At Quê Nhà restaurant, there's still a preserved old car, but it has been renovated to almost brand new. My parents decided to sit in it for a while to test it out. The old man who works here fondly remembers the days when he used to drive more than 70km around Saigon to help his wife deliver goods under the scorching summer sun.
But what makes the two elderly people happiest is indulging in the simple childhood dishes. When people grow old, they often live in the past or reminisce about their youth, their health. There's no need for fancy gourmet food; simple warm traditional dishes also bring joy to my parents.

Crispy burnt rice dipped in fragrant and creamy braised sauce is a must-have in Vietnamese cuisine restaurants.
The dishes from Quê Nhà restaurant's three regions deeply moved my parents.
Despite their old age and weak teeth, my grandparents still love eating crispy burnt rice with braised sauce. Back in the days when they were poor, they would give all the rice to their children, and the burnt part at the bottom would be used to dip in braised sauce to ease their hunger.

Using this braised sauce bowl to dip vegetables is also delicious, with its rich and fragrant flavor of dried onions and pork fat.
The crispy burnt rice at Quê Nhà restaurant is golden and thin, just right so that both the elderly and young children can eat it. Dip a piece of crispy rice into the clay pot of golden brown braised sauce, add a dried shrimp and a piece of flavorful pork, then put it in your mouth. Oh my, it's incredibly delicious!

The specialty of Pleiku's grilled beef in bamboo tubes is incredibly sweet and carries the aroma of bamboo.
Our whole family loves Pleiku's grilled beef in bamboo tubes. The beef is grilled inside a bamboo tube, preserving the natural sweetness of the beef and imbuing it with the aroma of bamboo and wild herbs. The restaurant owner shared with me that it must be young beef to be truly delicious.

These two giant clams are several times larger than normal ones, and drinking the broth from them is as sweet as sugar (just kidding)
Steamed normal clams are quite familiar, but the dish of two giant clams is quite unusual. Each clam is white and plump, with thick, crispy, and chewy meat. The broth from these clams is naturally sweet and carries a strong fragrance of lemongrass.

I've never seen any chicken as tender as this one.
Our kids absolutely love the whole steamed chicken with fermented soybean sauce. You don't even need a knife, just use chopsticks to separate the meat, it's that easy. The chicken is tender, golden, and fragrant with pepper, mushrooms, and garlic. Just dipping the chicken broth with fermented soybean sauce with white rice is already delicious, not to mention the chicken meat itself.
The dishes here are perfect for both me and my family. Ever since we discovered Quê Nhà restaurant, whenever we have class reunions or family outings, I always recommend coming here. Initially, when the restaurant first opened, the variety of dishes wasn't as extensive as it is now. After a few years, the chef started adding newer dishes.
In addition to focusing on flavor, the chef also pays attention to the presentation of the dishes because everyone looks at the food before eating. The downside of Quê Nhà restaurant is that when it's crowded, the service staff is a bit slow and forgetful, so I have to remind them several times. But the staff is very polite and friendly, so I just overlook it and gently remind them.
That day, our family spent about 200K per person on the meal (excluding children). Considering the joy it brought to my parents, it was still a steal and well worth it.
