When you download a Word file to your computer and open it, you'll see a line of text below the toolbar asking you to click Enable Editing to edit the file. This is the Protected View mode that helps protect your computer from virus threats from files on the internet. However, if you frequently work with downloaded files, you can disable this feature to save time or simply because you don't need it. Today, I'll show you how to turn off Enable Editing in Word.
Disabling Enable Editing in Word
Step 1: Open a downloaded Word file, then go to File and select
Step 2: Next, the Word Option window will open, choose Trust Center and then select Trust Center Option and press OK.
Step 3: Then, the Trust Center window will open, go to Protected View and uncheck all 3 options as shown below, then click OK to save the settings.
To re-enable Protected View, do the same as above and re-select all 3 boxes under Protected View.
