Design and Construction
- Sleek and lightweight
- 113 grams, IPX5 certified
- Pocket-friendly Bluetooth speaker design
Firstly, Realme Pocket keeps its design simple. It's oval-shaped, and as the name suggests, it easily fits into your pocket. The speaker is made entirely of plastic and weighs just 113 grams.
While it's made of plastic, it feels sturdy and can withstand a drop or two. Moreover, it's IPX5 certified, so it can easily survive splashes of water – even low-pressure water jets from spray guns and similar devices.
Connectivity and Control
- Bluetooth 5.0 (Realme Link pairing)
- Power/Playback control button
- Realme Link app
In terms of connectivity, this speaker pairs with the Realme Link app on your phone via Bluetooth 5.0 and I didn't encounter any connection issues here. The pairing process is also quite straightforward. A gentle press on the power button will wake the speaker up, and the initial pairing process is as easy as scanning and connecting the speaker to the app. It will then automatically connect to the last paired device.
Additionally, you can also pair two of them simultaneously for a stereo sound system. I can't say how well it will perform because I only have one of them, but it's certainly a nice feature to have.
For music control, there's an 'M' button that can play/pause music with a single click and change tracks with a double click. Similarly, a triple click allows you to go back to the previous song. Moreover, you can customize these actions through the Realme Link app.
Sound Quality
- Dynamic 3W Driver
Now, let's talk about the program's standout feature — its sound. The Realme Pocket speaker boasts a 3W Dynamic Bass Boost driver that's capable of filling a medium-sized room. What sets it apart from typical Bluetooth speakers is that you can adjust its sound modes from its companion app. There are three modes to choose from — Bass Boost +, Dynamic, and Bright.
Customize to Your Preferences
Under the first sound preset, the bass is deep enough to satisfy bassheads, and there's also a powerful punchiness. But this is a budget speaker, so make sure you always manage your expectations.
On the other hand, the Dynamic mode provides a balanced sound output, while the Bright mode accentuates vocals a bit. However, the soundstage isn't particularly wide here. Nonetheless, even at the highest volume level, I couldn't hear any distortion in the sound.
Furthermore, you can access the Game Mode via the aforementioned app, although my testing didn't show any particular results. Is it a pure advertising gimmick in action?
Battery
- 600mAh, up to 6 hours
- USB Type-C charging
- Realme Pocket Bluetooth speaker charging port
Regarding the battery, the Realme Pocket Bluetooth Speaker easily extends music playback time from 5-6 hours with its 600mAh unit. Fortunately, the company has provided a Type-C port for charging, taking about 2 hours 20 minutes to fully charge the speaker.
Conclusion
To summarize this review, the Realme Pocket Bluetooth Speaker reigns supreme in its segment with no shortage of competition, thanks to its budget-friendly price point. It not only delivers good sound quality but also comes with official IP certification, decent battery life, stereo sound pairing capability, and a slim lightweight design.
So, if you're in the market for an affordable Bluetooth speaker, the Realme Pocket is simply the best choice available.
