As the One Piece manga approaches its conclusion, fans have started making numerous predictions about the fate of characters in this masterpiece.
Typically, as a manga nears its end, tragic departures often occur towards the conclusion to drive the personal development of the main characters.
And perhaps One Piece is no different, as author Oda has announced his intention to conclude the series within a few years, preparing fans for the sacrifices of some important characters.

However, it seems that One Piece fans may not need to worry about the fate of their beloved characters. According to @sandman, a Twitter account specializing in translating old interviews of Eiichiro Oda, they shared a translated excerpt revealing an intriguing detail. It appears that Oda dislikes illustrating scenes of grief. Instead, he prefers to depict grand celebrations after battles.

If a main character were to sacrifice themselves in battle, it would 'hinder' Oda's ability to create the victorious celebrations after battles that he enjoys illustrating. Furthermore, Oda sees these feasts as the essence of friendship. Oda himself also wishes to conclude the One Piece series with a grand celebration.
This disclosure naturally leaves fans wondering: 'Does this mean no major character will meet their demise in the upcoming chapters of One Piece?' The departure of the last significant character closely tied to Luffy or his crew occurred quite some time ago in the Marineford arc.
Since then, only a few minor characters have met tragic fates, with no more major characters facing death. Therefore, it's reasonable to conclude that we may not witness any major character sacrifices in One Piece in the near future.
However, the possibility remains that Oda may make shocking decisions, choosing to end the journey of another character close to Luffy. For example, Luffy's grandfather, Garp, who is currently facing off against the Blackbeard Pirates in the manga, could potentially face such a fate.
