Prompt: Recount a school excursion with your classmates
A Sample of Narrating a Class Excursion Together
Essay
Being the poorest in my class, participating in a trip seemed like a distant dream for me. However, at the end of last year, my distant dream became a reality. Our class, with the highest academic achievements, was chosen by the school to visit the Nguyễn Trãi memorial house and the scenic Côn Sơn.
On that morning, my parents joyfully took me to the bus very early. A few kilometers into the journey, unexpectedly, the entire bus resonated with the songs of our youth. The tour group had an incredibly enthusiastic atmosphere. By seven in the morning, we reached Côn Sơn. From a distance, Côn Sơn was a hilly area covered with green pine forests. The sound of pine leaves rustling in the wind created captivating melodies. Upon reaching the entrance of the tour area, I saw a large sign with the words: 'Take virtue to replace violence.' Seeing our confusion, the literature teacher explained, 'That is a line from the timeless work 'Bình Ngô Đại Cáo' by Nguyễn Trãi. The sentence reflects the righteousness and humanitarianism of our people.'
Getting off the bus, we had 30 minutes to rest and have breakfast. The first place we visited was the Nguyễn Trãi memorial house. The tour guide, with a gentle and warm tone, took us through Nguyễn Trãi's life, and each of us silently admired: who would have thought that a great figure like Nguyễn Trãi would have such a humble life. Despite the hardships, Nguyễn Trãi always rose up for the sake of the nation.
Leaving the memorial area, we eagerly raced each other to climb the 'Chessboard Peak.' The path was long, built with stone steps, and on both sides were rows of cool pine trees, humming to the melodies of the wind. I walked slowly to savor the feeling of being 'immersed in the cool green, indulging in leisurely poetry' by Nguyễn Trãi.
We had lunch on the mountain top, my first time having a meal on the peak of a high and refreshing mountain. From there, I could see my hometown, Bắc Giang, and witness the Lục River with its glorious history flowing day and night.
Around two in the afternoon, we descended from the mountain, thinking the adventure was over. Surprisingly, the most exciting part of the tour was yet to come. Our teacher led us down a shortcut. It was a path of dry streams amid lush canopies above. We experienced all the feelings of ancient poets: sitting, lying on rocks, on dry moss patches, listening to the flowing water like the sound of a harp, feeling the cool stream water splashing on our faces... It was truly a wonderful sensation!
That late afternoon, we returned home. Everyone was tired but incredibly happy. The next day at school, we joyfully reminisced about the previous day's delights. Our friends even exchanged dried pine cones resembling round, dark brown Buddha towers that someone luckily picked up on the way down the stream.
For me, that journey held profound significance. It wasn't just a day to learn more about a national hero, nor just a cheerful excursion with teachers and all my friends. It was also something more, a trip that made me believe in the sincere dreams of childhood turning into reality.
