Sample Essay:
Upon returning home, I rushed inside and excitedly called out to my mom. She emerged from the house, noticing my beaming face. With a smile, she asked, 'What's got you so happy?' I ran up to her, embracing her tightly and exclaimed, 'Mom, I have something really exciting to share with you!'
My mom pulled me to sit down on the chair. 'Sit down, I'll get you some watermelon to eat!' Mom lifted up a plate of ripe red watermelon. I exclaimed, 'Wow! Mom, you're the best!' Mom playfully scolded me, 'That's only because you're good!' Then I recounted: 'Today on my way home from school, I encountered an elderly lady struggling to cross the street with a walking stick. She seemed frail and weak. Remembering Mom's advice to always respect and assist the elderly and young children... I approached her, and she smiled kindly at me. I asked, 'Ma'am, do you need help crossing the street?' I spoke but didn't get a response; she leaned down, bringing her ear close to me. I thought maybe she had trouble hearing me, so I asked again, louder this time. The old lady seemed to hear me this time, nodded, and chuckled softly. I said, 'I want to help you cross the street, please hold my hand tightly.' The old lady gratefully replied, 'Thank you, dear. I was trying to cross but couldn't find anyone to help as everyone seemed busy.' She hesitantly reached out and held my hand. As her hand touched mine, I felt her trembling. Holding her thin, bony hand, I could feel her dry, wrinkled skin and bones. I held her hand, waiting for the pedestrian signal to turn green, and we slowly crossed the street. The old lady walked very slowly, which worried me because I feared the traffic light might turn red while we were still crossing. Fortunately, that didn't happen. When we safely reached the other side of the road, the old lady turned to me, smiled, and patted my head, saying, 'Thank you very much, dear. If it weren't for you, I'd still be standing there. You're a good child.' I told her, 'It's nothing, ma'am. At school and at home, both the teacher and my mom teach me to love and help everyone. I'm happy I could help you. Goodbye, ma'am.' The old lady smiled kindly, her eyes sparkling. I waved goodbye to her once more and hurried back home. I wanted to tell my mom. After hearing the story, my mom hugged me and praised, 'I'm so happy that my daughter knows how to love and help others. My daughter has grown up.'
