Prompt: Recall a moment when I (or a friend) made a blunder
Sample narrative: Recounting a time when I (or a friend) made a mistake
Assignment
Everyone has made mistakes, some fixable, others unforgettable. Unfortunately, there was a time when I found myself in that situation.
Back then, I was in third grade. In our class, I was one of the five wealthiest students, so we always looked down on our less fortunate peers. My class had a girl named Nhung (but we always teasingly called her 'poor Nhung'). Nhung was poor and didn't have a father, so she was always the target of our ridicule.
One day, as Nhung walked into the classroom, the five of us simultaneously shouted: 'No dad! No dad! Oh la la! Oh la la!' and ran around teasing her relentlessly.
Instead of wearing her usual sly expression and eyes glimmering with sadness, today Nhung ran back to her seat and buried her face in the desk. Seeing this, we continued our cruel game even more. Unable to bear it, Nhung burst into tears. At that moment...
- Tung! Tung! Tung!
Five minutes later, the teacher entered. Seeing Nhung's red eyes and the silent tension in the classroom, it seemed like she had guessed everything. Contrary to my expectations, she didn't raise her voice but gently reminded us:
- We all have moments of joy but inevitably face moments of pain. The most important thing is to support each other, never intentionally provoke the pain of others.
As the teacher mentioned that, my entire class turned to look because Nhung was crying again. I felt extremely ashamed, as if all eyes were staring straight at me. The teacher continued:
- It's for a special reason that your classmate Nhung has such a situation. Living in the same community, show empathy and share with your friend. It will help alleviate her sadness.
Then my class moved on to the next lesson. The strangest thing that day was that the teacher didn't mention the five of us at all. She didn't scold or punish us either. But we felt deeply touched. The five of us discussed and planned to apologize to Nhung at some point.
But surprisingly, three days later, Nhung transferred to another school. We heard that Nhung and her mother moved to a new economic area. We felt immense regret.
Nhung, where are you now? Did you have to leave your family and beloved school because of us? Nhung, I wonder when we'll meet again to apologize. Even though I know, an apology now is too late.
