Sample essay 1: Write a paragraph about my summer vacation
When the old phoenix tree draped itself in a crimson robe, and the linden tree put on its purple dress, and the nightingales sang incessantly, it marked the beginning of a summer. It was also the time when students embarked on a rewarding and fascinating vacation. Up to now, I still vividly remember the summer vacation of my second grade in my hometown in Thai Binh.
It wasn't my first time returning to the countryside, but this trip left me with more knowledge, memories, and emotions than ever. My siblings and I were informed that we would be going back to our hometown, and we were all excited, joyful, and busy preparing our belongings. Early in the morning, the car started its journey, leaving behind rows of trees, the roof of our house on the familiar street. In no time, the vast fields appeared, lush green. The village road stretched long and straight. On both sides of the road were golden rice fields ripening. With each gust of wind, the rice fields swayed like endless waves.
In the afternoon, this peaceful countryside was as beautiful as a colorful painting and as lively as a symphony. Beyond the village's bamboo hedge, the setting sun cast its red rays across the leafy canopy. The rice fields changed their bright yellow morning attire to a golden glow. The red-roofed houses peeped through the gaps in the orchard. The sound of chickens chirping, pigs grunting, and ducks quacking for food filled the air. The sound of buffalo and cows calling after a long day of grazing. The voices of the farmers discussing animatedly. I met An that afternoon. Her house was near my grandmother's. The next morning, I saw An holding a beautiful kite. I was so attracted that I ran over to ask for it, but as I borrowed it, I accidentally snatched it away. An asked in surprise and took it back: 'Is this my kite?' I burst into tears. My grandmother rushed out to ask what was going on, and I cried even harder. An recounted the story and then handed me the kite. I held it and ran into the yard. But I didn't know how to play. After a while, I glanced over to An's house. An saw me and called me in. I hesitantly apologized and asked An to show me how to play. She smiled and led me to a wide grassy field. There, gusts of wind blew strongly. An slowly released the string, and the kite flew higher and higher. An handed me the kite string. So, that morning, An and I had a great time playing together. On the way back, we passed through the fields. The farmers were still diligently harvesting in the fields. With a sickle in one hand and a bunch of rice in the other, they harvested and bound continuously. Sweat dripped on their faces. The farmers wiped them gently with their already worn-out handkerchiefs and smiled happily to continue harvesting. Oh! The moment I saw those faces, I understood the hardships of those who produce grains of rice, grains of rice.
Since that day, An and I have become close friends. An took me to many places in this land. This vacation has helped me understand my homeland better. Now, I always look forward to summer vacation, to go back to the countryside, meet my kind friend, see the vast fields, hear the bustling evening, and feel the echo of my homeland in my heart.

Sample essay 2: Write a paragraph about your most memorable summer vacation
During the summer months, right around the time of the autumn flower harvest, my summer activities bring immense joy.
My house sits on the edge of the village, overlooking a vast expanse of fields. In the evening, I enjoy standing at the doorstep, gazing out at the fields. The rice season brings forth a lush green hue, starting from the base of the bamboo bushes, stretching all the way to the horizon. People and vehicles on the road look tiny, like ants.
I particularly enjoy admiring the fields during beautiful afternoon weather. The graceful white storks glide down and vanish amidst the greenery. Sometimes, on my way home from school, I pass through the fields, and a few startled birds swiftly take flight at the sight of my shadow.
After the rice planting season comes the season of planting colorful flowers, which brings even more excitement! There's a folk saying that goes:
January is the month of festivities.
In February, we plant beans, and in March, we plant tomatoes.
That's just talk; people start preparing the soil for planting potatoes right after the Lunar New Year. Potato fields often have tall and wide ridges. On the surface where potatoes are planted, beneath the ridges, people also intercrop various types of beans.
Some days, we children go to the fields to help our parents mound up the soil and weed the potatoes. My older sister catches those big potato worms as big as fingers, with horns on their heads, their bodies full of wriggling holes, looking quite scary and making me turn pale with fear.
The cornfields reach higher than a person's head, with corn tassels like small dry branches stretching up to the sky. Shortly after the bright yellow color fades away, the corn becomes old, and it's time for people to start harvesting. Children often help their families pick corn, stacking them in piles on the edge of the fields. The large corn cobs with yellow husks and few silks at the top. Then, the gatherings to pick beans are even livelier. The bean fields have large and low rows, with the plants full of pods pointing in all directions, ripe black, and still green. Adults carry baskets to collect them, while we children, my older sister had the idea to sew each of us an apron like a chef's to hold the beans. Little Binh looks like a funny kangaroo in the zoo. My sister and I compete to see who can pick faster.
Beyond the fields, in May and June, flowers seem to rush home to the drying yard. Everyone divides the space into sections. One area for drying corn, another for beans, and some for arranging peanut stacks with their white shells and the heads full of peanuts. At dusk, my sister carries a basket of sweet potatoes with a few boiled beans. The whole family sits happily, my parents discussing which crops are best for this season's harvest, and what flowers to plant next year. Meanwhile, we recall the times we played and chased each other through the cornfields.
In our village, the land hardly ever rests. After the flower harvest, it's time to plow again, waiting for the rain to sow rice.
The fields are a constant source of activity, changing with the seasons. Each harvest brings its own rhythm and rituals, marking the passing of time in our rural community.
Living in the countryside where we grow colorful flowers can be tough at times, but what's enjoyable is going to the fields, working and playing, listening to birds chirping on the bamboo groves, and ancient trees. The sparrows chirp in the early morning, the roosters crow at noon, and in the evening, the herons call from the treetops. I love the countryside where there are two harvest seasons a year, plowing and planting, making people busy yet happy, bustling around.
Sample 3: My most memorable summer vacation
Last summer vacation, my family and I visited Ha Long Bay. It's been a long time since I had such a relaxing summer break.
To prepare for the trip, I arranged clothes, food, and drinks... the day before. The car departed at 5:30 in the morning, and my family arrived at the meeting point at five o'clock. I thought we were the earliest, but to my surprise, many others arrived earlier. My dad held a large travel bag, my mom carried a bag of food, and me and little Mi carried a small backpack containing some odds and ends. Along the road from Hanoi to Quang Ninh, before my eyes was a magnificent landscape full of emotions. The car weaved through bridges and small rocky mountains, after over an hour, the tour group started getting off the bus to take a boat tour of the caves. Here, there are the highest stone arches descending into bands of stalactites of all the colors of the rainbow. I heard the most beautiful cave is the Wooden Head cave. It's a palace with many winding chambers, just a drop of water falling lightly from the stalactites is enough to break the silence.
Our family visited all the caves in one morning. Everyone took many beautiful photos here and quickly got on the bus to the guesthouse. The whole group got off the bus to get their luggage, waiting for the tour leader to contact the accommodation. Some kids, around second or third grade, ran around in the flower garden. Little Mi, on the other hand, was the most mischievous, inviting friends to play tag despite constant reminders from mom, but it wouldn't listen, just liked frolicking and playing with friends. Oh! Why is the tour leader taking so long to contact? Just when the group was about to go in, from a distance, the guides handed out keys to each person.
In the afternoon, our family went to the flower garden to take photos for memories and then went up the hill near the 'Thang Long' guesthouse to admire the scenery. Mom said everyone should take a few photos when the weather is nice. Em and little Mi took two different styles of photos. When taking photos, it said:
- Hey, you seem to be quite photogenic!
Em replied:
- Oh! Not necessarily.
Upon hearing that, Uncle took a photo and said:
- Alright, you two, stop arguing. Uncle thinks you both love posing for photos.
After taking the photos, the whole family went to the market to buy some specialties for the summer vacation. Wow! The Halong market is busier than Hanoi. Right from the beginning of the market, a series of stalls selling watermelon, shrimp, and meat are arranged to welcome customers. But the seafood section is the busiest because most tourists want to buy gifts for their vacations. Mom and I observed the children's clothing section next to the candy stall, which was quite crowded, especially with parents buying clothes for their children. Two kids were running around and got scolded by their mother. Seeing that, I immediately told my mom to watch over little Mi carefully so she wouldn't get lost again. In the evening, the lights lit up everywhere. Mom, little Mi, and I went to have dessert at a nearby shop next to the hotel where our family was staying. Dad stayed in the room reading the newspaper and watching TV. As time passed, the whole group began the journey back to Hanoi.
The allure of Halong Bay has made it a year-round gathering spot for tourists from both domestic and international destinations. Everyone comes here to explore, relax, and swim in the sea... Everyone feels delighted and satisfied with the natural wonder of the world.
