II. Sample Essay: Recounting My Daily Activities After School
1. Recounting My Daily Activities After School - Model 1
My name is Hoàng Minh Lan. This year, I stepped into fourth grade at Phương Đông Elementary School. My family consists of four members: my father, mother, and my three-year-old younger brother. Every day after school, I assist my parents with various chores and prepare my school books and homework.
In fourth grade, our schedule has slightly changed. Instead of afternoon classes like in third grade, we now have morning classes and the afternoons off. So, every morning, after waking up, I head to school and return home at noon, after school ends.
Arriving home at ten thirty, I join my mother in preparing lunch for the whole family. I assist her with various small tasks like picking vegetables, washing dishes, and pots, while she takes care of cooking delicious meals for everyone.
After the meal, my family gathers around the dining table in the living room, chatting happily. At noon, my mother takes my younger brother to school, while my parents take a break and then head off to work. Meanwhile, I can work on the homework assigned by my teachers.
In the afternoon, my duty is to pick up my sibling from kindergarten. Since the school is about a kilometer away from home, I ride my bicycle to pick them up. Around five in the evening, my mother returns from work with a basket of vegetables. She says she stopped by the market on her way home to buy some groceries for dinner.
I then pitch in to help my mother with cooking. Sometimes I pick vegetables, other times I wash dishes, ... After a while, my mother urges me to sweep the yard and the house to keep everything clean. Then, I take a shower and prepare dinner to assist the family.
In my family, there are five of us: my parents, little sister Bi, and grandma. Since my parents work at the company, they only return home by noon. Little Bi goes to preschool, so there's only grandma and me at home. This year, I've moved up to fourth grade, which means I only attend school in the morning and have the afternoons off. Therefore, after each school session, I rush back home to assist grandma with household chores.
Upon arriving home, I put my school bag in its designated spot and hurriedly went to grandma's side. Mom had woken up early to go to the market, so grandma and I were in charge of preparing lunch for the family. I helped grandma pick vegetables, set the table, wash meat, and dishes, while she cooked. When everything was ready, I set the table with grandma and waited for my parents to come home for lunch.
After lunch, I helped mom wash and dry the dishes, neatly arranging them on the rack. Mom always praised me, saying her daughter had grown up and knew how to help everyone. I felt really happy to be praised by mom like that.
After lunch break, my parents could only rest for a short while before having to go back to work. I obediently sat down at my desk, trying to finish all the morning assignments the teacher gave so that I could help grandma and my parents with some household chores in the afternoon.
Around five in the afternoon, I hurriedly climbed onto my small bicycle to go pick up little Bi. Bi's daycare is just a stone's throw away from home, so it didn't take long for us to return. Bi is extremely well-behaved, often playing by herself when we get home. But some days, she'd want me to play with her, so we'd play tag, pick flowers, and have a lot of fun together.
I also helped grandma sweep the garden clean and waited for my parents to come back. In the evening, mom cooks dinner for the family, so I assist her with small tasks like setting the table and preparing to take a bath.
Family dinner is always filled with joy. Dad and mom share stories from work, Bi tells tales from school, and I join in with funny stories from class. After dinner, I help mom wash and dry the dishes.
The end of the long day is when my family gathers around the small TV, watching the evening news program. I retreat to my room to prepare for tomorrow's lessons. At exactly ten o'clock, I climb into bed, ending a day filled with so much happiness.
Despite the fatigue of a long day, it brought me a lot of joy and new experiences.
3. Recounting my daily activities after school, model number 3:
This year, being in fourth grade, studying has become much busier. However, I never forget to help my parents and bond with my family after each school hour.
Being in fourth grade means having full-day classes instead of half-day like last year. So, I only come home after afternoon classes. Upon arrival, the first thing I do is change clothes, neatly placing them in the bathroom corner for mom to wash my school uniform in the evening. My school bag is placed on the study table, and then I quickly head out to help mom and grandma with household chores in the yard.
I helped mom sweep the garden clean. We have lots of plants around our house because my dad loves gardening. So, there are always leaves falling everywhere. I assist mom in sweeping them up to keep our yard clean and tidy. Then, I help mom pick vegetables for our dinner. Mom usually buys spinach, so while I'm picking vegetables, I also proudly share with her the good grades I've been getting in school. During those moments, mom would pat my head and praise me for being obedient.
After finishing picking vegetables, I help mom wash them and then rinse the rice, preparing a delicious pot of rice for the whole family. Little Bin is still at daycare, so I go pick him up instead of mom. The daycare isn't far from our house, so I walk there to bring Bin back home. We walk and play along the way, and when we arrive home, mom has already cooked dinner.
Mom urges me to take a quick shower to avoid catching a cold, while she helps little Bin bathe. A little while later, dad comes home, and the whole family gathers for a delicious dinner prepared by mom. After dinner, I help mom wash and dry the dishes, neatly arranging them. Then, I snuggle up to dad, listening to him and mom talk about their day. I also share some funny stories that happened at school.
At the end of a long day, I prepare my school books for tomorrow's lessons while dad, mom, and Bin go to bed. Around ten o'clock, I go to bed after a day filled with joy.
The tasks I do after coming home from school may not be remarkable, but they bring me much joy and happiness as I spend time with my family and gain new experiences.
