This smartphone might be unveiled as the Redmi Y3.
After separating from its parent company Xiaomi, Redmi has introduced 3 smartphone models including Redmi Note 7, Redmi Note 7 Pro, and Redmi 7. Recently, the chairman of Redmi took to Weibo to ask whether Redmi should launch a smartphone with a 32MP front camera or not.
Most Redmi fans responded affirmatively to Weibing's query. Currently, there are several smartphones in the market featuring a 32MP front camera such as the Huawei P30 series and the Vivo V15 Pro. They all come equipped with the Samsung GD1 32MP sensor. The upcoming Honor 20 series smartphones are also expected to feature a 32MP front camera.
Redmi Y2 was unveiled last year.
Samsung introduced the ISOCELL Bright GD1 32MP sensor in October last year alongside the ISOCELL Bright GM1 48MP sensor. The ISOCELL Bright GD1 32MP features real-time HDR mode, with a pixel size of 0.8 microns and supports pixel-binning technology to combine 4 pixels into 1 for brighter photos in low-light conditions.
There's a high likelihood that Redmi's 32MP front camera smartphone will be released internationally as the Redmi Y3. This speculation perfectly aligns as the Redmi Y3 is rumored to be a device targeted towards the youth, focusing on selfies to replace the Redmi Y2 unveiled last year.
Fan's Concept of Redmi Y3
In addition to the Redmi Y3, there's information suggesting that Redmi is also developing a high-end smartphone running on the Snapdragon 855 chip and the Redmi 7A, a budget-friendly alternative to last year's Redmi 6A. Currently, the Redmi Y3 has received WiFi certification, so its launch date may not be far off.
