'The Tale of Kieu' is the sympathetic voice of a great poet towards the talented yet doomed life of Kieu. Not only does it defend talented and unfortunate women who suffer injustices in ancient society, but through 'The Tale of Kieu,' the poet also reveals his dream of justice and the ideal model of a hero who could save the nation and help society through the character of Tu Hai. The ideals, qualities, and lofty aspirations of the hero Tu Hai are vividly portrayed in the excerpt 'Heroic Spirit.'
