Over more than 4000 years of civilization, our country has experienced countless ups and downs, prospering from the times of Van Lang u Lac, the early days of nation-building, to over a thousand years of domination and oppression from the Northern invaders. However, the Vietnamese people, especially the youth, have never surrendered. The endeavor to build and defend the nation has always been accompanied by the heroic figures of young people, regardless of gender. It is through their valiant efforts that our nation regained independence after more than a millennium of humiliation, ushering in a new era for the country and its people. Even in recent history, facing invasion and heavy oppression from imperialist powers like France and the United States, after nearly 120 years of fierce struggle, once again our people secured independence, striking fear into the hearts of enemies, largely due to the contributions of the young generation stepping onto the battlefield.

If one were to ask what courage, what driving force propelled the younger generation to such lengths for their country, the only logical and fitting answer would be deep-seated patriotism, ingrained in the very fabric of our being, becoming a cherished tradition of the Vietnamese people. It can be said that patriotism is the foundation for other invaluable qualities such as national pride, spirit of sacrifice, unwavering determination, deep-seated hatred towards the enemy, and many other virtues. Because of this noble sentiment, countless husbands, fathers, brothers, and sons bravely stepped forward to the frontlines, charging into battle. Despite facing immense hardships and making sacrifices, they did so to protect our Motherland. Hearing the words of poets like Chinh Huu, 'My shirt is torn, my pants patched, I laugh bitterly at the cold without shoes...', one can imagine the image of young men who were once at peace in their villages, tending to fields and gardens, but due to their love for the country, unwilling to see it trampled and their people oppressed, they were ready to leave behind their families, their homes, to march onto the battlefield, wielding guns against the enemy. Then there were the nights of endless marches, exhaustion reaching its peak, sleep fleeting, 'Comrades stop walking. Collapse on the gun, helmet forgotten for life,' as Quang Dung wrote in the most humorous yet realistic manner about the image of soldiers in the past in the poem Western Advance. Thinking back to the feverish chills that tortured the body, remembering the times of food shortage, when even strong young men succumbed to hunger and cold, but never did their patriotism fade, only growing deeper and more profound in the hearts of these soldiers.

It must be affirmed that patriotism always comes with a noble spirit of sacrifice, selflessly putting the country before oneself. In Western Advance, Quang Dung wrote 'Scattered along the border are distant graves/Battlefields go unmissed, lives vanish.' Indeed, the youth who followed one another into battle all carried a voluntary spirit, determined to die for the Motherland if necessary. They set off without looking back, knowing that perhaps the future would be covered in horsehide or lying down in desolate places without loved ones. But it was their determination, their selfless sacrifice, that was the strongest evidence of the intense patriotism of the young generation in the two resistance wars against France and the United States. Truly, I am deeply grateful and admire the spirit of sacrifice of the previous generations. It is thanks to their efforts, bravery, and selfless dedication that we have achieved the independence we enjoy today. Given the opportunity to learn, to live happily within the embrace of family, schools, and society, to have freedom, equality, and the right to pursue happiness. All of this has been exchanged for the blood, sweat, and tears of the previous generations, thanks to the deep patriotism and national pride of our ancestors that we have the present day.
