II. ESSAY
On a summer morning, with the blue sky, golden sun, and gentle breeze amidst a bustling garden of buzzing bees and fluttering butterflies, the chirping of birds, take a moment to look at a bird confined in a cage and see how you feel.
Personally, my initial feeling is an indescribable sadness that wells up within me. That tiny, beautiful bird, what crime has it committed to be confined in such a cramped cage? It incessantly jumps around, flapping its wings wildly in search of an escape. It thrusts its head through the gaps between the cage bars, from one end to the other, struggling and emitting cries of pain and despair.
Disheartened and weary, it slumps to the bottom of the cage, wings spread out, feathers tattered. It looks pitiful, immensely deserving of sympathy!
Outside, the sky remains blue, the sun golden, the wind carries the scent of myriad flowers and grasses, along with the melodious chirping, the vibrant cacophony of various bird species. Just separated by a fragile bamboo cage, yet two entirely different worlds. In here, it's suffocating, stifling; out there is freedom, boundless, adorable, worth living for!
I ponder the value of two words: freedom. I'm reminded of the plight of a person deprived of freedom. To lose freedom, how much agony! To lose freedom, life becomes meaningless!
I silently condemn those who, for reasons such as livelihood or personal preference, set traps to catch birds because most birds are highly beneficial. Birds prey on insects, contributing to protecting crops for humans. Misunderstanding or ignorance of the role of birds has often led to immediate disastrous consequences, hasn't it?! I believe that keeping birds in cages as pets is a cruel pastime disguised as elegance.
Nature has bestowed upon us countless species on Earth. The richness and diversity have crafted the wondrous beauty of life around us. Let's come together to protect useful animals, let's be friendly with nature. Only then can this Earth exist and thrive for a long time.
