Let me show you how to make seaweed sam drink, a highly popular beverage in the southern region during scorching days.
Ingredients for Making Seaweed Sam Drink:
- 100 grams of red seaweed (readily available at grocery stores)
- 2 stalks of sugarcane
- 100 roots of lemongrass
- 15 grams of Chinese foxglove (available at traditional Chinese medicine stores)
- Pandan leaves (known as sticky rice leaves in the north), cilantro (known as old cilantro, if not available, use parsley instead, known as coriander outside the north)
- 180 grams of white sand sugar or granulated sugar (amount of sugar depends on taste preference)
- 4 liters of water

2. Method for Making Seaweed Sam Drink:
- Soak seaweed in water until it expands, then rinse thoroughly with water to remove all sand.
- Cleanse the roots of lemongrass and sugarcane. Cut the lemongrass into short pieces and split the sugarcane into small chunks.
- Slice Chinese foxglove into thin slices.
- Put all the ingredients in a pot, pour water into the pot, and simmer for about 40 minutes. Then add pandan leaves and cilantro and simmer for another 10 minutes.
Once the water boils, remove all the ingredients, leaving only the seaweed water (after cooking, there should be about 3 liters of seaweed water left in the pot).
Afterward, put the seaweed water and sugar back on the stove and simmer until the sugar dissolves completely. Remove from heat, let it cool, and then store it in the refrigerator for gradual consumption.
