Attendees will witness the showdown between the latest Samsung Family Hub smart refrigerator and LG's second-generation InstaView ThinQ refrigerator at CES 2020.

According to The Verge, Samsung's new Family Hub smart refrigerator will face off against LG's InstaView ThinQ second-generation refrigerator at CES 2020, taking place from January 7th to 10th in Las Vegas. Both are equipped with AI-supported cameras for food classification. The cameras scan the inside of the refrigerator and notify users of missing items while suggesting recipes based on available ingredients.
Despite cameras being integrated into previous generations of smart refrigerators for users to check the contents remotely, with advanced AI, the Family Hub can now identify commonly used ingredients and provide shopping recommendations. Additionally, Samsung has upgraded the software on the smart refrigerator with the support of Whisk, a food tech startup acquired by the company last year. The new system allows users to plan up to a maximum number of dinners per week and create a smart shopping list based on cooking recipes. Moreover, the large touchscreen on the refrigerator door can be used as a bulletin board, support video playback, and stream content directly from Samsung TV and smartphones.

LG is set to unveil two new InstaView refrigerators featuring a transparent 22-inch screen, allowing users to see inside without opening the door and preventing cold air from escaping. Both come equipped with the InstaView ThinQ AI system and the InstaView Craft Ice feature. InstaView Craft Ice, LG's exclusive ice-making technology introduced last year, produces transparent, 1.6-centimeter round ice cubes that melt more slowly than conventional ice.

The prices of Samsung Family Hub and LG InstaView ThinQ are yet to be disclosed, but experts estimate the price range to be between $4,500 (104 million VND) and $6,000 (139 million VND). Samsung will officially release the upgraded version of Family Hub in March 2020.
The Verge suggests that integrating a Wi-Fi-connected touchscreen on refrigerators is a practical way for users to easily search for cooking recipes. However, the effectiveness of the food classification feature and identification of commonly used ingredients still needs real-world verification.
