Step 1: Open the faulty document in Word. The document with extra spaces will look like the illustration below.
Step 2: Click on the Home tab on the toolbar. In the Editing group, select the Replace tool or press the shortcut key Ctrl + H .
Step 3: When the Replace dialog box opens, you enter two spaces (white spaces) into the Find what box. Then, you enter one space into the Replace with box.
Afterward, click on the Replace all button. A dialog box appears confirming the changes have been made, click OK and enjoy the results.
