It also offers similar functions to Excel when it comes to removing extra spaces caused by text input or copying data into cells. Moreover, Google Sheets features the Find and Replace tool and an add-on for quickly eliminating these spaces. Today, Mytour will guide you on how to remove extra spaces in Google Sheets.
Guide to Removing Extra Spaces in Google Sheets
InitiateMethod 2. Utilizing Substitute Function
Google Sheets offers a handy function called Substitute to replace characters within cells. The Substitute function enables users to alter content within cells, including removing spaces. Its syntax is as follows: SUBSTITUTE(text_to_search,search_for,replace_with,[occurrence_number]). This function acts like a 'find and replace' feature to locate characters within cells and replace them with alternatives.
To employ this function, click on cell A5. Then, input the following formula into the function bar: =SUBSTITUTE(B3, ' ', '') and press Enter. The resulting value in A5 will be 345678, devoid of any spaces.
If you wish to replicate this function to clear multiple cells, right-click on the cell containing the formula and drag it to the desired destination.
