A replica of the Great Wall, situated in Nanxiong, Jiangxi Province, spans 4 km, far shorter than the original which was once declared to be nearly 9,000 km long.
Replica of Great Wall Stirs Controversy in China
The Great Wall of China is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country, often bustling, especially during holidays. In response to this, a replica of the Great Wall has been constructed right in China.
According to SCMP on May 2nd, this replica of the Great Wall is built in Nanxiong, Jiangxi Province, 1,500 km away from the real wall. Situated atop a hill with observation towers resembling the real wall, it's convincing enough to deceive people in photographs.

However, the reality is that the replica is only 4 km long, much shorter than the original which spans nearly 9,000 km. Some sections of the Great Wall have been recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, constructed during the Qin Dynasty (221 BC – 207 BC), with the rest completed during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).

Social media posts about the replica of the Great Wall have sparked mixed reactions. One user commented: “The Great Wall cannot be replicated due to its historical significance”. However, many others find humor in this amusing architectural project: “The Great Wall in Nanxiong looks pretty good. No copyright issues, right?”.
China has long been renowned for replicating some of the world's most unique architectural landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower (France), the Statue of Liberty (USA), and Big Ben (UK)… In 2014, a replica of the Sphinx had to be dismantled in Hebei Province after the Egyptian government complained about the replication.
