With the surge in online learning and meetings during the COVID-19 pandemic, Zoom has become a potential target for pranks and harassment through methods like Zoombombing. To combat Zoombombing, the company implemented default meeting passwords and waiting room features, significantly limiting intruders. However, Zoom doesn't stop there in pursuit of perfection, aiming to create a safe and secure meeting environment.

Section I - Step-by-step guide on reporting suspicious users in Zoom meetings
1. How to activate the option to report users in Zoom?
By default, Zoom has enabled the reporting option for all main hosts and co-hosts of a meeting. Once activated, users can easily access this option through the Security button in the meeting window.
However, if you've encountered a situation where the reporting option isn't functional in a particular meeting, you'll need to contact your account admin. Only the admin of the Zoom account in question has the authority to revoke your reporting privileges.
Additionally, if you're not the host of the meeting, you can still report suspicious members during the meeting. In this case, admins or account owners need to go to Web Settings and enable the Allow participants to report during a meeting option.
If this option isn't enabled, members won't be able to report suspicious users during a Zoom meeting.
2. How to Report a User if You're the Host of a Zoom Meeting
After the account admin, the meeting host holds the most authority in Zoom. The host can control almost every aspect of the meeting, including the option to report one or multiple users exhibiting suspicious behavior.
2.1. Reporting Zoom Users on PC
To report a participant, the account admin needs to enable this option first. During the meeting, click on the Security tab located at the bottom of the Zoom meeting window on PC.
Next, click on Report...
Then, mouse over the participant's name you want to report and select the reason for your action. You can add comments, screenshots, or quickly capture the current situation. Once done, click Send. Your report will now be reviewed by Zoom's Trust and Safety team.
2.2. Reporting Zoom Users on Mobile Devices
The feature to report Zoom users isn't limited to the PC version. You can achieve the same results from your mobile device. First, while in a meeting, navigate to the Participants tab. Now, press the Report option at the bottom of the screen.

Then, select the name of the participant you want to report and click Next located in the top right corner of the screen.
Finally, explain the reason for this action, add screenshots, provide a brief description of the incident, and click Send.
You'll receive a notification confirming that your report has been successfully sent to the Trust and Safety team.
2.3. Alternative Approach
In a recent update, Zoom introduced the option to pause meetings. This addition is considered a positive step in mitigating Zoombombing.
The pause meeting option allows the host of a Zoom meeting to remove unwanted participants without canceling the meeting altogether.
To pause a meeting, you'll need to click on Security and select Suspend Participant Activities.
The meeting will immediately pause, and you'll have the option to report a participant. Additionally, you can attach screenshots of the violation and provide a brief description of the incident.
3. How to Report a Participant if You're Not the Host of a Zoom Meeting
Hosts and co-hosts always have the option to report meeting participants. Recently, Zoom has extended this capability to regular members/non-hosts as well.
If this option is enabled, you can report a suspicious user in the same way. This feature has been rolled out as part of a recent update, along with the pause meeting functionality.
To report a participant when you're not the host of the meeting, click on the Security icon in the top-left corner of the meeting window. Then, you'll see a red Report link right below the dialog box.
Select the participant you want to report, articulate the reason behind such a decisive action, and finally, attach screenshots (optional) before pressing Send.
This recently rolled-out feature is also available on mobile devices, though it may not be accessible in all regions at this time.
II - What happens after you report someone on Zoom?
Zoom prioritizes addressing abusive behavior and rule violations. Therefore, the person you report might find themselves in an undesirable situation. If you provide sufficient evidence - screenshots and a description - that individual may ultimately be banned from using the platform.
However, it all depends on the community guidelines of the Zoom online meeting app and whether the reported individual has violated them. On the flip side, a severe warning might be issued.
