To properly service your BMW, resetting the service light is essential. However, the method varies depending on the model. Here's a detailed guide applicable to any X5 or X6 (E70 or E71)
Follow these Steps:

1. Insert your remote key into the key slot. Then, press the 'Start Stop' button once without pressing the brake. This action should illuminate several dashboard lights.

2. Allow any warning lights to extinguish. In certain situations, such as a low fuel warning, pressing the 'BC' button on the end of the indicator stalk may be necessary to clear them.

Hold down the black button firmly. It's situated at the bottom left of the speedometer (instrument cluster). An exclamation mark will appear in the center of the speedometer screen. Keep holding the button until the next image appears, then release it.

Navigate through the images one by one. Go through all available picture options for each service. Once you reach the service you want to reset, press and hold the black button until the text 'Reset?' is displayed below the picture, then release the button. Finally, press and hold the button again to confirm the reset.

Select a service option. On your dashboard, you may encounter two service options that need resetting for future dates (statutory vehicle inspection and statutory exhaust gas inspection). You can adjust these options similarly by pressing once to scroll through the numbers and holding down to confirm your selection. However, in some cases, statutory inspections might not reset. In Australia, these services are not mandatory, and any BMW dealership can remove them. If manual reset isn't possible, a visit to the dealer may be necessary.
Useful Tips
Warnings
Avoid resetting services that haven't been performed, especially brake services. Resetting a brake service warning without replacing the brake pad warning sensor alongside the brakes can trigger a fault code, requiring reset at a BMW dealership. Additionally, refrain from using this information dishonestly as it can have negative consequences for yourself or others.
